  • The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie
We continue Jess Byard July, this year all about surrealist films, with the first Luis Bunuel film we've ever covered along with possibly being the auteur's finest film: The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. Supporting Character's Bill Ackerman joins the episode to talk Bunuel's career, the surrealist nature of the film, and the films it went on to influence.

Starring Fernando Rey as the ambassador from the fictional Miranda, he, along with a group of his middle class acquantiances, attempt to share a meal together with hilarious, bizarre, and even violent interruptions stopping their feast. It's a film unlike many others and one that rewards an active, engaged viewer with sight gags and more.

Mondo Heather's Heather Drain joins the show to talk all about Steven Sayadian's career, Wall of Voodoo's musical additions, and that Cream of Wheat scene.

  • KCx80TVL: 9 to 5
We continue our limited crossover marathon with our friends over at 80's TV Ladies to coincide with their look at the Nine to Five TV show with an ensemble film that features two-thirds of 9 to 5's cast along with two more heavy-hitting actresses: 80 for Brady. 80's TV Ladies Sharon Johnson and Susan Lambert Hatem join the show to talk all about a film that's way better than it has any right to be.

Starring Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Sally Fields, and Rita Moreno, the four play a real-life group of women who bond over their shared love of Tom Brady and make it a point to be at the 2017 Super Bowl in Houston. From one mishap to another, it's a comedy in the vein of The Hangover but with more heart and a whole lot more Guy Fieri.

  • TPBxKC: Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny
We take a break from our usually scheduled programming to take a look at the final film in the Indiana Jones franchise that comes fifteen years after the last totally unnecessary film: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. In this crossover episode with The Projection Booth, Chris and Mike are joined by author and Steven Spielberg impersonator Andy Rausch to breakdown the film, its place in the series, and why they're thankful this is the end for our intrepid hero.

Starring Harrison Ford as the titular archaeologist, he must contend with a villainous Mads Mikkelsen as a former Nazi turned NASA scientist who is hell bent on discovering the secrets behind the Antikythera, a mysterious dial created by Archimedes. Along the way he is joined on his adventure by his goddaughter played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge who attempts to steal the dial for her own captialistic gain. It's all over the place, and not in a good way.

  • The Sea Inside (Mar Adentro)
We end Spanish-Language Film Month with a look at the real-life story of Ramon Sampedro, a quadriplegic who fought for almost thirty years for his right to die: Mar Adentro. Rankin on Bass's Richard Hatem stops by to talk about euthanasia, Javier Bardem's body of work, and why these kinds of movies don't necessarily move the needle for us.

Starring Javier Bardem as Sampedro, the film chronicles his life looking back at the accident that took his body to the fight for his right to die to his final moments. It chronicles his life in an unsentimental way that seems at times at odds with the usual way of telling a biopic story, at least in American cinema. It's a quiet film that asks questions about life, death, and what it means to be human.

  • Like Water for Chocolate (Como Aqua Para Chocolate)
We continue Spanish-Language Film Month with an adaptation of a Laura Esquivel novel that challenges notions on familial responsibility, mother/daughter relationships, and more through magical realism and food: Like Water for Chocolate. 80's TV Ladies' Susan Lambert Hatem and Dark Destinations' Father Malone join the episode to talk about the film's history, its unfortunate connection to Miramax, and indie film of the 90s.

Starring Lumi Cavazos as Tita, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery and self-reliance as she experiences a tumultuous life in early 1900s Mexico. Forced to take care of her mother due to her being the youngest child, the film chronicles her life and her yearning for love and affection from an unobtainable source all the while she infuses her cooking with her emotions.

  • Thesis
We kick off Spanish-Language Film Month with a horror film that feels very familiar in its subject material but does it in a way that's shocking, engaging, and entertaining all at the same time: Thesis. The Projection Booth's Mike White stops by to rewatch an underrated horror gem that deserves not only the spotlight but also a reappraisal.

Starring Ana Torrent and Fele Martinez, the two play film students uncover a possible snuff film ring that may be operating out of their university. While investigating, they find evidence that may lead to not only them determining who the killers are, putting them directly in harm's way. It's a wild ride that asks uncomfortable questions about violence in media and who it's ultimately for.

  • Soylent Green
We take a break from our usually scheduled programming to take a look at one of the sweatiest, and one might say tastiest, sci-fi films ever made featuring Mr. Machismo himself, Charlton Heston: Soylent Green. Dean of Media and Communications at Texas Tech Dr. David Perlmutter stops to not only program his first episode but also offer some high-level analysis of the film.

Starring Charlton Heston and Edward G. Robinson, the two play a cop and ex-analyst who live in a post-apocalyptic New York City on the brink of a food shortage due to the ingredients of Soylent suddenly drying up. They stumble upon a secret however so world-altering and sanity-jarring that it could shake up their entire existence if discovered. It's a true gem of a sci-fi thriller.

  • Ragtime
We end Mike White May with yet another Forman period piece, this time all about a time in America when racial tensions were at an all-time high: Ragtime. The Projection Booth's Mike White and Rankin on Bass's Richard Hatem stop by to gush profusely about a film that gets better with age and rewatches.

Starring an ensemble cast, the story focuses on a family who is thrust into the spotlight after a baby is left in their garden during the turn of the 20th century. It then escalates into racial violence, musings on responsibility in a young America, and what it means to be an American.
