  • Creep
It's time to kick off Horrortober with one of the most exciting and interesting films out this year: Creep. The film features Patrick Brice as a man with a camera hired to film Mark Duplass' last days on Earth before he passes away from cancer. The film starts innocently enough but quickly devolves into a psychological game of terror between the two. Along with a review of the film, we also speak with the director/actor Patrick Brice about directing and starring in the film, what was changed, and what the future holds for Creep.

  • Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
We close out Singin' September with the first, and possibly only, internet musical: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. We are joined by guest co-hosts co-writer of Freaked Tim Burns and author Russ Linton to talk about the cult classic directed by Joss Whedon. It features Neil Patrick Harris as the eponymous doctor who is dead set on upending the status quo by taking down his nemesis played by the smug Nathan Fillion. Along the way he also tries to get Penny, played by Felicia Day, to fall in love with him. It's a classic tale of mad scientist gets girl, mad scientist makes freeze ray, mad scientist becomes super-villain.

  • Black Mass
As we near the end of our Singin' September marathon, we take a detour from our regularly scheduled programming to talk about Black Mass, Johnny Depp's newest film. It tells the story of Whitey Bulger, the most feared gangster in the history of South Boston, and his rise to power due to his standing as an FBI informant. The film also stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, Corey Stoll, Dakota Johnson, and Peter Sarsgaard.

  • The Nightmare Before Christmas
As we near the end of our Singin' September marathon, we noticed one film hadn't made our list that many of our readers had requested: The Nightmare Before Christmas. So we decided, why not talk about one of Disney's most memorable musicals. The film tells the tale of Jack Skellington, one of the members of Halloween Town, as he stumbles across Christmas Town, and then wants to kidnap Sandy Claws so he can replace him. The film features some iconic music from Danny Elfman, the signature stop-motion direction of Henry Selnick, and a story from one of the master storytellers, Tim Burton.

  • Reefer Madness
On this week's Kulturecast we, along with frequent guest co-host Sean Liang, close in on the end of our Singin' September marathon with another stage to screen adaptation: Reefer Madness. A parody of the 1930's propaganda film, the film follows Christian Campbell and Kristin Bell as they are taken over by the effects of the devil weed, and sink into decadence and depravity. It also features Alan Cumming, John Kassir, Steven Weber, Ana Gasteyer, and Neve Campbell in a cameo role. It's a hilarious send-up of 1930's America, along with some truly inspired musical numbers. We also speak with Christian Campbell, who played Jimmy Harper in the film.
