GUEST: Seattle Times sports columnist, Matt Calkins, joins KVI's John Carlson to preview the Seattle Mariner's wild card playoff series with the Toronto Blue Jays that starts with game 1 tomorrow. Calkins says the two teams are very evenly matched but Seattle's top 3 starting pitchers are as strong as any team in the playoffs and baseball playoffs are always about the strength of your starting pitching. KVI's John Carlson laments the reality that Seattle Children's Hospital is providing transgender medical procedures to juveniles saying, "I really wish I didn't have to do this story" because the hospital has provided admirable care in the past. Carlson points out Seattle Children's is joining with other juvenile medical facilities around the United States in providing transgender medical procedures. Children's has decided to draw the line at under-age genital surgeries unless the patient is age 18. Carlson notes the lack of science related to so many of the decisions involving transgender youth--whether the decisions come from the child, the parents or the doctor.

NFL wide-receiver, Tyreke Hill, confides the reason he signed a lucrative free-agent contract with a team in Florida instead of New York was because he didn't want to pay roughly $3 million in taxes. KVI's John Carlson uses that admission to evaluate the pros and cons of state income taxes.
