The founder of outdoor apparel maker, Patagonia, has decided to donate all company profits to fighting climate change. Yvon Chounaird posted in a written statement: Earth is now our only shareholder. KVI's John Carlson digs into the logic behind Chounaird's decision and his professed concerns about carbon emissions ruining Earth. Carlson points out that many of the clothes that Patagonia makes are made more resilient by petroleum based chemicals. In addition to that, the outdoor activities like camping, bicycling, kayaking, climbing and hiking that Patagonia customers (and the founder, too) enjoy in their lives have all become much easier with lighter, stronger and more accessible equipment because of petroleum based ingredients.

King County Executive, Dow Constantine, in a quiet but frustrated voice tells Seattle independent journalist, Jonathan Choe, "you're not actually a journalist" as Choe was pressing Constantine on a question regarding the location of a large homeless facility in Seattle's SoDo neighborhood. KVI's John Carlson examines the audio recording of the exchange and what it says about Constantine, who has apparently decided he is the arbiter of who is allowed and not allowed to be a news reporter in Seattle.

Hour 2-- Carlson reacts to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II (since he was on vacation when she passed last week), Queen Elizabeth's former security guard shares a delightful story about two Americans meeting the Queen in 2009 but not realizing that she was actually the Queen of England, KC Executive Dow Constantine flatly tells Jonathan Choe "not actually a journalist" when pressed with a tough question about locating a large homeless complex in SoDo, CNN interview with WA US Sen. Patty Murray shows she needs a script or she's feckless (get this more targeted), Murray has benefitted from Seattle media protection and establishment protection, garbage everywhere is now a problem in Washington.

KVI's John Carlson examines the recent disclosures of notable Puget Sound news outlets who granted incumbent U.S. Senator Patty Murray two requests to avoid head-to-head editorial board interviews against her November general election challenger, Tiffany Smiley. Carlson concludes that Murray "has been, you know, a very loyal partisan Democrat and that's what it takes to have the full cloak of protection from the D.C. establishment and of course the Democratic establishment here in Washington state." Carlson adds that "a good chunk" of the Puget Sound news media (newspapers and NPR) "like her, they protect her." Carlson says Murray is enjoying that protection as she's being challenged by Smiley.

KVI's Ari Hoffman interviews U.S. Senate challenger, Tiffany Smiley, who is running against incumbent, Patty Murray in the November 8th general election ballot in Washington. Smiley says Murray "does not have a solution" for "issues" Washington families are facing every single day. Murray hasn't agreed to any candidate debates with her Republican challenger. Murray is a Democrat who has served for 30 years in the U.S. Senate.

Two hikers on Baring Mountain near Skykomish WA discover that the Bolt Creek wildfire quickly spread and blocked their descent route to the trailhead and their car and possibly trap them on the mountain with the fire moving their direction. KVI's Kirby Wilbur interviews Portland attorney John DiLorenzo who is suing city of Portland on behalf of ten disabled people who say they can't navigate some sidewalks and curbs because of tents and belongings of homeless people allowed to camp with impunity. DiLorenzo tells KVI he wants three results from this lawsuit in Portland. For context there's an estimated 5000 homeless people but the city has 12% of residents with some sort of ADA disability. DiLorenzo says some of the plaintiffs have volunteered for years in efforts to help assist homeless people. He adds, Portland's politics are like trying to "walk up the down escalator", cites venerable U.S. Sen. Daniel Moynihan who criticized social programs studying poverty that never provided actual results.
