Upon hearing of the consequence for his sin, Cain complains that his punishment is too great to bear. Still expressing no remorse for murdering his brother, it is clear that despite God’s continued grace, he has determined to harden his heart. Cain goes out from the presence of the Lord and settles in the land of Nod. Many people live under the blessing of God’s gracious pursuit of their sinful souls, yet respond in the likeness of Cain as they wander aimlessly out from the presence of the Lord.
