  • S5E70 - 11.22.63 Part 1 (2016)
    Episode Notes

Firstly, we apologize because it sounds at time as though we are recording on an actual racetrack – we’re doing our best but the freeway is very very close to our house. Now, for the show itself – we watched episode 1 – The Rabbit Hole of 2016’s Hulu miniseries 11.22.63. We’ve got Stephen King (YAY). We’ve got time travel (YAY). We’ve got James Franco (Y…yeah). This week we get the lay of the 1960s land and a protagonist that cannot just do what he is told. Or at the very least not do what he is warned about doing. And we try to get the writers to understand that if a character has a nickname, he doesn’t mean nothing. We see you Yellow Card Man.

    Recommendations: Schitt’s Creek (on Netflix)

  • S5E69 - Cell (2016)
    Episode Notes

Skepticism and frustration abound this week as we discuss the Cusak/Jackson vehicle Cell that had everything going it and still ended up chaotic bad. We were rooting for the plethora of talent to tell us a good story but with indecision racking the ending, the film falls flat. Do quick edits a good action scene make? How gay is Sam Jackson’s character? Is Cusak’s girlfriend really an ex? Who knows? But we discuss each of these questions this week.

  • S5E68 - Big Driver (2014)
    Episode Notes

Buckle up because we’re going on a ride this week as we accompany Maria Bello on the worst road trip of her life (CW: Sexual Assault). We settle further into our belief that when you see Ann Dowd, you should run far and fast in the opposite direction. If you don’t take that hint, then I urge you to turn back at the “last chance to turn back” gas station. But if you find yourself in trouble, lean on the safety of the comforts of your own imaginary friends. And when it’s time for payback, remember: Don’t get caught.

  • S5E67 - Mercy (2014)
    Episode Notes

This week we persevere through kitty co-hosting and losing almost all of one of a double record to bring you a heaping helping of adaptations of Stephen King’s “Gramma.” After an aperitif of Lovecraftian history, first up we discuss Barrett Oliver, who is abused by his parent and grandparent all in the span of 20 minutes in the 1986 episode of Twilight Zone. Then, we expand both theme and content in 2014’s Mercy staring none other than the Walking Dead’s Chandler Riggs, doing the best acting we’ve seen from him. We then digress to a praise of small moments, especially by Patrick Wilson before landing back on Lovecraft with out recommendations. It’s a good ride, so come along and we promise we’ll get you home safe.

  • S5E66 - The Good Marriage (2014)
    Episode Notes

We missed you so for our first week back, we cover a whole bunch of things. We tried watching the first and last episode of Under the Dome which made for an impossible episode – so we spend a bit of time trying to sort through it. Then we move directly to 2014 film The Good Marriage (available on Amazon Prime) with the stunning Joan Allen and real cad Anthony LaPaglia. We’ve forgotten how to podcast but we are doing our best and look forward to getting back on track.

Recommendations: Vast of Night (Amazon Prime); Dragula (Netflix)

  • S5E65 - Carrie (2013)
    Episode Notes

Is this necessary? Nah. Is it good? Yeah! We watched the third adaptation of Carrie starring actual teen Chloe Grace Moretz and a scenery chewing Julianne Moore. This Tommy is actually charming and this Billy is definitely on his third strike. More about the movie than about the plot, because we all know how this one goes, but it’s a fun watch.

  • S5E64 - Bag of Bones (2011)
    Episode Notes

Pierce Brosnan is visited by a plethora of ghosts, all with different agenda’s in this week’s miniseries: 2011’s Bag of Bones. He bucks his history of icy coldness with some full body sobbing in this pretty if harried adaptation. Amity has come to the end of her goodwill to Melissa George, but she is impressed with Mick Garris. Lemuel sticks up for Melissa and lauds Pierce. We discuss moving to Maine so we can get away with all the murders.

  • S5E63 - Children of the Corn (2009)
    Episode Notes

Oof. This is a rough ride this week as we watched the remake by the original filmmaker of Children of the Corn. Twenty-five years after the original film and what have we in this version? More perverse child sex! Less likeable characters! No monster at all! Wait, what? Yeah, that’s right – that’s the remake that was put together for all of us to… enjoy? We’re so sorry if you watched along – next week will be better, we promise.

We also have a conversation about the rest of the season because we were supposed to be almost done but we have another year. Buckle in cuz there’s some good stuff coming our way.

  • Dolan’s Cadillac (2009)
    Episode Notes

This week we dug into 2009 Christian Slater vehicle “Dolan’s Cadillac.” We debate the merits of early pregnancy knowledge, the uselessness of cops and the grief black women go through for a paycheck. We also discuss various aspects of Christian Slater from his abs to his monkey heart.

  • S5E61 - The Mist (2007)
    Episode Notes

This week we discuss a monster masterpiece with a torturous ending, 2007’s The Mist. Wherein during our discussion we absolutely remember Carol and breeze past the fact that a main character in this film is also in the Walking Dead – sorry Laurie Holden, but we hated you in that show. Marcia Gay Harden utters the best line in cinema history and that barely dents the fact that the ending of this film is both divisive and operatic. It’s a lot to cover.
