This week we get locked in with John Cusack as he investigates Sam Jackson’s evil room in 2007’s 1408. Cusack’s writer is bull-headed and determined and gets way more than he bargains for. We discuss the physical specimen that is John Cusack, the throwbacks this film indulges in and how we are likely never going to a hotel ever, ever again.
Recommendations: Dora and the Lost City of Gold (Amazon); Love Live (HBO Max)

We wrap up our month of nightmares on our least favorite of the pairs. First, we spend a lot of time on the dick of our “protagonist?” – and Amity says dick more times than she thought possible in a 15-minute time span. Then we turn to a hell on Earth populated but rock stars who only want us to – suffer? It’s an odd night. We give a rundown of the best Dreamscapes and which are simply nightmares.

We get a double dose of William Macy in “Umney’s Last Case” – half soft-boiled detective and half hard cooked writer. Then we watch the world forget with Ron Livingston and Henry Thomas as the road to hell is paved with good intentions in “The End of the Whole Mess.”

This week we watched night one of a on-month event from 2006 – Episodes 1 and 2 of Nightmares and Dreamscapes. First up, the audacious one hander starring William Hurt, “Battleground.” 43 minutes of nonstop violence done entirely sans dialogue. Next up we tackle Lovecraftian tale “Crouch End,” which is kind of a nothing? But Claire Forlani is in it, so that’s something. It’s an interesting start to the series and we look forward to the next six entries.
Recommendation: Stuber (HBO)

In a town in the desert, we encounter a Sheriff by the name of Tak… given name Collie Entragian. No, really, that is the name of Ron Perlman’s character in this deceptively violent television film from 2006 – Desperation. We visit this aptly named hamlet along with a veritable whose who of acting talent and we learn the true nature of God. No, really, listen to find out.

This week we watched the TV miniseries Salem’s Lot, starring a heavily chapsticked Rob Lowe. We marvel at the unchanging Donald Sutherland, lament the lack of Rutger Hauer and discuss how similar vampirism and Covid-19 are in how your life is touched. We urge you to stay separate, stay safe, and check out this movie if you can.

This film is based on the very first mass market E-book sold and kicks off a discussion about e-reading vs. paper and the history of books from two people who used to sell them for a living. Then we dissect this scant film – Lemuel apologizes to Mick Garris and Amity apologizes to Jonathan Jackson while being mean to David Arquette. It’s a haunted ride, and we enjoy it.

We are going on a spoiler frenzy this week as we discuss 2004’s Secret Window starring Johnny Depp and Maria Bello. There’s a twist – so watch before you listen – or just dive in if you don’t care, we spoil things on the reg. Lemuel watches primarily for Maria Bello, though both of us are pretty thirsty this week. We talk bad accents, surprise death and why corn is a terrible medium for wrath.
Recommendations: Seeling Night A Psychomantium (book available on Amazon), Merritt Wever in literally anything

Problematic issues ahoy! This alien body horror psychic conglomeration is brought to us by Stephen King’s accident and attendant oxy usage. Lemuel is extra bougie this week while Amity tries to give it the benefit of the doubt, thought when it comes to Duddits, those benefits run out. Listen for our take on Donnie Walberg’s second most wild role and the miscasting of Morgan Freeman.
Recommendations: The Outsider (HBO), Nurse Jackie (Netflix)
