Muhammad Ali is The Champ. The greatest boxer of all time! "I am the Greatest". At least he always told himself and everyone else that. I don't think Ali had to pretend to be the best! I know that he believed he was. He was always very self assured.

Muhammad Ali would proudly tell you that he was "The Greatest"! His attitude and his bravado is legendary. But, not only did he believe he was "The Greatest", he usually proved it! His boxing record was outstanding. He was a very charismatic person, in the ring and out.

His head to heads with Howard Cossell were fantastic. He made it fun to watch boxing.

I like the phrase, Fake It 'Til You Make It. It is critical to do that in many areas. I think it is especially true in many areas of belief.

Any time someone asks me, "How are you?" I always tell them, "Wonderful". Even if I am not, I will pretend that I am. I always plan to convince myself and my brain that I am Wonderful.

Ideas are responsible for the progression and prosperity of humans – without them we would still be living in prehistoric times. No idea is too small, and all sorts of ideas have potential to change the world as we know it for the better. ~~ Richard Branson

This is our last in Richard Branson's Top 10 Quotes on Ideas. I don't think it's one of his top 10, but instead his quote describing the concept of ideas for his quote series. To me, however, I believe this is in itself a great quote.

It's a valid statement as well. Without people having ideas and more importantly, acting on those ideas, humans would still be in the stone age. As we discussed yesterday in Earl Nightengale's quote, "Everything begins with an idea."

There is no idea too small. The smallest thing can have a big impact. Ignaz Semmelweis in 1847 after research to determine why the mortality rate after surgery was so high, found that surgeons weren't washing their hands after each surgery. He started encouraging doctors to wash after each surgery. That small thing resulted in the mortality rate dropping from over 18% to just over 2% the next year.

As Richard Branson goes on to say,

". . . and all sorts of ideas have potential to change the world as we know it for the better."

Do you have an idea? "What If" your idea lead to an amazing change. What If your idea changed the world for the better. "What If " your idea just made your or your families life better.

Today is the day to start working on your idea. Don't keep it bottled up in your head or in that notebook on your desk. Don't leave it in that Word Document on your laptop.

We had a guest speaker at our office the other night. Mona Patel, CEO Motivate Design -presented her concepts of Innovation through Design Thinking. You can follow Motivate Design on Twitter @Motivate_Design or Mona at @MonaPatel

We were led through 3 parts of an 8 part exercise to get us to start thinking out of the normal scenarios in which we work. The Message:

As Earl Nightengale says, "Everything begins with an idea." Sometimes those ideas can come about by asking yourself, "What If?"

We went through an exercise trying to think about ways that we as a company can move forward, move fast more effectively. What ideas could we come up with in 3 minutes by asking ourselves What if? The important part was to not judge what we were saying or what our ideas were.

What If we could do this and this would happen?

What if we did this and then this and this team would be able to do that? Each person went through this exercise in the three minutes time to get these ideas out.

Once we wrote out our What If's in the 3 minutes, we had to stop. We broke up into groups of 4-5 people then we each read one What If out loud to the others. Each person would read a What if, then the others were only allowed to say one of three things.

Plus 1 - if they thought of the same thing.

Plus Love - if they Really LOVED the idea and supported it.

I'm Good, if they were out of ideas to share.

This went on through the lists. It is amazing what ideas were thought of that we all thought Plus Love. These were ideas that we could then take further.

The next exercises had us send our ideas through "Funnel Vision" and ask 3 questions:

1. Did we LOVE the Idea - If yes, move to the next question. If no, the idea was out!
2. Does the idea meet business needs? If it won't help the business, then the idea was out.
3. Does it show empathy for the end user. (That would be us! That was what the goal was to begin with.)

All of the exercises allowed us to bring out IDEAS using these tools.

How do you go about creating ideas? Think about how and what you can Ideate, Create, Innovate in your life.

Today's quote is part of Sir Richard Branson's Top 10 Quotes on Ideas. This quote is from another great Englishman, Sir Winston Churchill.

No idea is so outlandish that it should not be considered with a searching but at the same time a steady eye. – Winston Churchill

Winston Churchill was a great orator, leader and statesman. He was the right person for his time. And in his time, he had to have an attitude like this. With the troubles that Great Britain was suffering throughout World War II, it called for open mindedness on all ideas.

Churchill heard many ideas to help with the war effort. I can imagine that all of England was doing everything it could to help. Everyone would want to have the best idea to end the war, or save Britain, or defeat the enemy.

Do you think your ideas are outlandish? Have you stopped thinking about an idea because someone told you it was outlandish?

Well, according to Winston Churchill, all ideas, no matter how outlandish they seem, should be looked at and considered, but with some measurement.

Just because they seem outlandish doesn't mean they won't work.

Many great inventions, or products, or causes were laughed at and ridiculed as being outlandish. Many people that persisted and had the sense to review them, to check them out to look them over with a steady eye are now heroes, wealthy or great.

All because they didn't discount the idea simply because it was outlandish.

Your idea may be outlandish! It may seem far-fetched. It may sound crazy, at first! But, it may also be the next big thing.

Take your outlandish idea and make it into what you think it could be!
