Thanks again to Sir Richard Branson. Today's quote is one of Sir Richard's Top 10 Quotes on Ideas. It's good to see that he has a sense of humor. Paula Poundstone is a comedian and has a wry wit. She is provocative, funny and insightful with her humor.

Adults are always asking little kids what they want to be when they grow up because they're looking for ideas." – Paula Poundstone

Isn't that the truth! I often tell people I am still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Who better to get ideas from than a little kid. I mean they are the perfect advisers for us to think about what we want to be or what we should be.

You know that kids don't have filters. They haven't been jaded by the the adult world telling them,

"You can't do that!"

"You're too old / too young for that!"

"You haven't been to college, you can't do that!" and so many of the negative thoughts that adults put on us.

Imagine this, Elon Musk sells PayPal to EBay for $1.5 Billion, netting $160 Million. He goes to a friends house for dinner and is playing with little son of his friends. Musk is playing with the kid and asks him, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

The kid with his youthful exuberance tells Musk,

"I want to build rocket ships and fly into outer space."

"Yea", Musk says, "Why?"

"Cuz, That'd be so cool!", the kid replies. The kid is standing holding a toy car.

"That's a cool car, does it go fast?" Musk asks the kid.

"It does, but it's out of gas. I wish it had batteries so it could drive without gas. If I was a super hero, I would have a car that ran on batteries and could go forever!"

Hmmm!, thought Elon Musk. When he went home after dinner he started thinking . . .

And now you know the rest of . . . . OK, it probably didn't happen like that. I am sure SpaceX and Tesla came about from other ideas, but hey, you never know. Maybe Elon Musk will come on the show and tell us if my imagination is, well, just, imaginary!

What did you want to be when you grew up? Did you become it? What do you want to do now? Are you doing what you want to do?

I know, I had the same problem. I realized a couple of years ago that I wasn't doing what I wanted to do. I started thinking about what I should be doing. I consulted some trusted advisers. My friends kids. No, just kidding. My mentor and mastermind group members and other friends. What made me happy? What was I doing when I was at the happiest point in my work life?

Do you have a idea? What are you doing about it, just thinking about it? Or, did you give up on it?

Be like a kid! Don't let the negative thoughts of your subconscious mind or your family and friends tell you can't do it.

In November 2013 – I had been in San Francisco 3 years. Moved to SF to get a job.

I had been a loan officer when the mortgage industry crashed. I had started a Weekly Newspaper, Coffee News, but it failed due to the economy.

I had taken a job in a high end grocery store bakery. I worked my way up to Bakery Manager of a large store. 3 weeks later I was offered a job in SF making 5X what I was making doing what I had left before I became a loan officer.

After 3 years, I realized I wasn’t enjoying what I was doing. I loved the company. I just wasn’t happy doing what I was doing.

When I thought back on my last 10 years, I realized I had been happiest when I When I worked my own business, Coffee News and was able to work with businesses marketing their business, selling ads, networking in community groups, Chambers of Commerce and BNI.

I wanted back into marketing, networking, and working within the community.

Toastmasters had started at FRB, so I joined, so I could meet more people at FRB and get out into “the FRB Community”. I started Marketing Classes at UC Berkeley Extension.Then I took Social Media Marketing Strategy by Michael Brito.

A Passion was ignited. An old flame was re-kindled.

Have you ever had that moment hit you? That A HA Moment? That moment when . . . .

When that moment hit me, I sat down awestruck! I knew that my why was to teach, mentor, speak, share, network, to get back into building and helping the Community and the members of the community grow and achieve their goals.

I decided I needed To Follow My Arrow, Wherever it Pointed!

It became my theme song. I have it pop up on my Reminder every Morning.

I started podcasting, blogging, growing my twitter following, with the ultimate Goal to follow my arrow and get into a position that would allow me to do my passion.

I was having a fun again, enjoying what I was doing. I stay up late, get up early, work on these things on weekends, doing what I love.

I kept thinking about my passion and trying to learn the things that would give me the skills to start my own social media business or go to work as a community manager for a someone.

But my work was wearing on me. I got a call to interview with a company doing the same thing I was doing at FRB, but with control over the team and the application.

I didn’t really want to move to Spartanburg, SC., or do the same thing and then an opening for the Internal Community Manager opened up at FRB.

I Never expected to get the position at FRB. I interviewed. I had passion. I had desire.

I was offered both positions at the same time!

A full-time job doing what I was not happy doing now, for a company I don’t know and working with people I don’t know.

OR

The Internal Community Manger position at a company I liked working for, with people I liked hanging around with, and doing what I am passionate about.

I had a lot of consulting clients in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area. Las Colinas is sort of between the two and I used to stay in Las Colinas when I traveled to the area. The difficulty lies not so much in developing new ideas as in escaping from old ones. – John Maynard Keynes

John Maynard Keynes was a British Economist, the author of "The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, and the founder of what is now know as Keynesian Economics. His ideas were new ideas for his time in the 1930's. Thus the reason for his quote about ideas.

This is one quote that rings true to me. I've worked in Information Technology for a long time. You will find this quote very relevant when you are working with companies on getting new technology or processes in place.

Have you ever tried to change something because it's a good idea and will save someone time and money and you hear people say:

"We've always done it that way, and it's worked fine."

Change is difficult.

It is easy to come up with an idea. And, it can be a very good idea. It can be an Awesome Idea!

The difficulty lies not so much in developing ideas -

And, we should always be thinking of new ideas, new things, have big dreams.

But, escaping from the old ideas, the old way can be a challenge.

Henry Ford, when asked if he listened to his prospective before creating the mass production of automobiles, said,

"If I'd asked, people would have told me they needed a faster horse."

I believe it is so true. That's why today, many startups and current companies are creating the MVP, the Minimally Viable Product. They create something that works, that they can show people. They create something that people can use and try out, then get feedback on how to improve it. They don't necessarily get feedback initially, other than confirming the need for such the new product.

So, don't give up! Your idea is probably awesome! It may just be difficult to escape from the old ideas in peoples minds.

Victor Hugo is one of the greatest authors of all time. He is probably best know as the writer of Les Miserables, but he is also a well-known poet. The story of Les Mis is fantastic and in my opinion, expresses this thought that Victor Hugo expressed in this quote.

And it is very true.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

This is just one part of his, "I Have a Dream" speech. It is one of the greatest speeches of all time. It was delivered August 28, 1963 - at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.
