I've heard many quotes along this line and they always inspire me to aim higher. To "Shoot for the moon!" I've heard used. If you reach for a star you will get farther. If your reach for a star, you are reaching a little out of your comfort zone.

At the 2015 Podcast Movement, Pat Flynn, of Smart Passive Income Podcast fame did a small exercise in his keynote address. Pat is an accomplished speaker, and he excelled at this keynote.

One of the key things I walked away with from the conference and Pat's keynote is this exercise. Pat asked everyone to stand up. He then asked to raise our hands. Of course, some of us, ME, were perplexed until he continued.

"Now stand on your tip toes and reach up a little higher.", Pat said. We all did, and everyone got smacked with the BFO - that's a Blinding Flash of the Obvious for the uninformed - that we can all just reach a little further if we try. It may be 2 inches this time, but next time we reach for a start, we might just get one.

And to further the point of the quote of the day, if we didn't get our goal, we won't get a hand full of mud, either.

Janina is one of my co-workers and fellow Toastmasters. She posted this quote, which I think is usually attributed to Anonymous. Since we don't know who said it originally, I am going to attribute it to Janina, since she is the person that shared it to our office.

This is a very simple quote with great impact. We all have fears. Whether it's the fear of failure, the fear of success, or what Napoleon Hill, in his book. Outwitting The Devil, the most dangerous fear, the Fear of Poverty.

The key is to have Dreams that are bigger than those fears. If you want something more than you fear getting it, it will make it that much easier to keep going toward it.

The second part of the quote is, "and your actions louder than your words." We can talk all you want. If you don't do, you won't have. It's that simple. There's a philosophy in the martial arts I studied. The Sanmitsu - Thought, Word & Deed. All three are key. The Dream, The Words and The Deed. Your Deed, your Action must be louder than your Words.

You can go out and Get The Goals You Set! You have to have a dream that is bigger than your fears and then you have to go out and Do the actions it takes to achieve them.

Sometimes the old proverb are the wisest sayings and quotes. OK, were going to have a vocabulary lesson here. In our Toastmasters meetings, we usually have a Word of the Day. This is to help us increase our vocabulary. They are usually words or phrases that have some meaning or usage that would be beneficial for the members to know and possibly use.

Today's Word of the Day is Proverb. From Dictionary.com the definition of Proverb (as a noun) is:

Passion is what drives us to succeed, keeps us motivated. It is the desire, or feeling that we have for something. That love for something.

The proverb talks about Our reason being the pilot that steers us. I feel this is talking about what I call our WHY. The Why we have the passion. It is critical in Goal Getting to understand what our WHY for wanting to achieve our goal(s) is. The Reason/WHY is what will keep us motivated when we want to quit or go astray. Without the WHY, the Reason, our pilot, our vessel will be lost. Without the passion or the drive we won't have the desire to continue.

When you set your goal, Know Your WHY, and have a passion for Getting the Goals You Set. Those two will guide you to success.

This quote really resonates with me this week. I have been having a tough time working in my current position. I must wasn't feeling the love for what I was doing. I could not put my heart in it. I wasn't feeling engaged. I wasn't having fun.

Have you ever felt that way with your job? Have you just felt that it wasn't fun getting up in the morning and going to work? Have you felt you couldn't put your heart in it?

I am a firm believer in the concept of this quote. When I realized I wasn't enjoying what I was doing, I started thinking back to what I had done before that I loved to do. There was a time where I loved going to work in the morning. I didn't mind staying late or working from home late.

My kids used to call me a "Workaholic". I explained to them, then, that I loved what I was doing. That I wasn't working. I was having fun! I like to do what I was doing then.

Having that feeling will make all the difference in the world whether it's work, a relationship, a hobby.

For years I was an active tennis player. I captained neighborhood teams, I was played in tournaments. I played in multiple leagues. I loved tennis. I took some time off from playing when I got really busy in a new job. When I moved to California to start another new job, I started playing again. After about a year I was standing on the court during a match. I was thinking, I cannot put my heart in it.

I realized that I wasn't having any fun out there. It was becoming a chore to go to matches, practice, etc. I just didn't have my heart in it. So, I took myself out of it. I called the captain of the team and told him I was finished. I was retiring from tennis. Thanks, and I was sorry.

If you cannot put your heart in it, whatever it is, take yourself out of it. You will be happier in life.

Oprah Winfrey lives the life of her dreams. When she says this quote you know she is talking about you. When I first read this quote, I was going through some questions in my mind about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.

I wasn't happy doing what I was doing at work. I wasn't feeling like I was contributing to other people, but more so, I wasn't contributing to myself.

I realized I wasn't living my dreams. I was living others dreams. I was trying to keep my head above water. Not financially, because I made good money. I was trying to keep my head above water because I felt like I was drowning in dullness, with no intention, no meaning to what I was doing. I wasn't having fun doing what I was doing.

I remembered how I had felt doing some of the things I had done before and the times I thrived when I pursued the work I was doing. There was a time. I thought back to what I was doing then, and decided I needed to do that again. No matter what it took.

Are you doing something that doesn't give you the personal fulfillment you are craving?

Are you living your life on purpose?
