In an episode co-hosted with MohammadAli Jardaly, we discuss with Dr. Andrea Darzi MD, MPH, PhD her work at McMaster University looking at health-care related guidelines. Health-care related guidelines are published to assist in the management of various diseases; however, they do not take cultural differences between countries and continents, and specific needs, into consideration.
Dr. Darzi discusses her group's work in developing recommendation maps aiding in guideline adaptation to the needs of the physicians and other health care workers assisting them in managing their patients. A big example and a subject she is working on is chronic pain management which varies tremendously between different countries. It may be opiate heavy in North America and much less opiate oriented in other countries.
These recommendations maps will assist in management, adaptation, and aid in research questions in the future focusing on the gaps in knowledge that need further study. They will also help patients understand their disease process and its management.

A great podcast the beginning of the school year. We all lead fast lives which become faster as the school year starts for those of us with kids. Juggling work, kids' activities, life stressors, worrying about parents in Lebanon for the Lebanese listeners ... this all leads to fatigue, tiredness, and burnout. Burnout has become a major issue in healthcare workers, and is leading to thinning out of the workforce.
In this episode, we discuss these topics and others with Dr. Labib Ghulmiyyah, a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist, who is now in Miami but was in Lebanon prior for 12 years. Dr. Ghulmiyyah has authored 3 books which can be found on Amazon:
- A Toxin-Free Pregnancy
- Gen Tox Live Clean
- Reframing the Fourth Trimester.
Dr. Ghulmiyyah has also started the Vitality Project to provide individual and corporate consultations on wellness and combatting burnout. This project focuses on digging deep into the different pillars of a person's life, their nutrition, exercise, stressors, toxin exposures, etc.. and targeting them one pillar at a time. Dr. Ghulmiyyah's approach may be life changing and an eye opener for people.
This episode can also be found on Apple, Spotify, Anghami, iHeartRadio, all all podcast sites. It can also be found on YouTube.

In this episode, our guest is Marina El Khawand who is a recent law school graduate from Sagesse University. Her story started after the Beirut explosion and during the economic crisis when she secured a much needed asthma medication to an old lady stuck in her half destroyed apartment in the Karantina neighborhood in Beirut. Marina was 18 at that time and has been passionate about equal access to healthcare for all people in Lebanon. After this event, she established Medonations, an NGO that is now operating in more than 65 countries with medical drives collecting much needed medications and serving more than 20000 families in Lebanon. Medonations has been able to weather multiple medication crises in Lebanon and continues to grow. Marina, a lawyer, by training, is now a pharmacist by practice and is on her way to going into pharmacy school.
This is an inspirational story and an embodiment of resilience in the face of adversity. Instead of moving abroad and starting a new life, Marina has decided to stay and have a positive impact on her society.
