This story begins in 1859 when Clyde List moves his family west. He was an astute businessman who wanted to strike it rich in the gold business, but found plenty of business in boarding and feeding teams of horses for mining companies. One day in 1865 one wealthy miner decided he wouldn’t pay for their services, after the fact. He was met by 9 year old Lona List and soon other List children who set out to stand up to this miner and his men.
