Part 1 of Shane Hmiel's story on The Dale Jr. Download gave us a look at the raw talent that put Shane on the list of NASCAR's next superstars. Today we bring you Part 2 — and things take an emotional turn.

Shane Hmiel and Dale Jr. go way back. They've shared plenty of laughs over the years, but Shane's road hasn't exactly been an easy one.

In Part 2, Shane opens up about the drug suspensions that derailed his NASCAR career, getting clean, finding his way back to racing and the crash that changed his life forever.

But one of the most powerful moments comes when the conversation gets personal. Shane explains what Dale's friendship has meant to him through all the ups and downs, and why he was so worried about letting him down coming into this interview.

It's raw, it's honest, and it's a side of Shane's story you don't hear every day.

In Part 1 of this episode, Shane Hmiel joins Dale Jr. to talk about growing up in the Roush shop around Mark Martin, winning 164 go-kart races as a kid, and the Goody's Dash win at Darlington that put him on the map.

Then he went to fill in for Kenny Wallace at a Busch Series practice and left with a contract. Shane explains how he went from putting in septic tanks for $50 a day to racing against Dale at Daytona, why he turned down a ride from Jr., and how a fight with Jason Keller's crew led to a failed drug test.

Our guest show this week was special because Dale Jr. hosted one of our newest podcast hosts, Jerome Davis, to tell his story. In this snippet, Dale Jr. asks about the team side of PBR and how Richard Childress gave him a call that changed everything.

Lastly, Denny Hamlin previews the rest of the NASCAR Cup Series field's points standings, and the Bros get into a debate about who has a realistic chance to win it all.

The 1995 PRCA World Champion, 2026 ProRodeo Hall of Fame inductee, founding member of the PBR and head coach of the Carolina Cowboys joins Dale Jr. to talk about the moments that shaped his career — from winning a world championship to helping build the PBR from the ground up.

Jerome also opens up about the injuries that changed his life, what kept him coming back to bull riding, and why he still believes he’ll walk again. Dale and Jerome get into the early days of the PBR, the $1,000 buy-in that helped get it started, Richard Childress and the Carolina Cowboys, and the similarities between racing and rodeo.
