Damian Browne is a former professional rugby player turned extreme athlete. Since retiring from professional rugby he has taken on various extreme challenges including; The Marathon Des Sables - A 250km multi-stage, self-sufficient ultra marathon, across the Sahara Desert in 2016, The Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge - A 3,000-mile solo transatlantic crossing in a rowing boat in 2018 and now The 7 Summits Challenge, where Damian is attempting to summit the highest mountains on each of the 7 continents - 5 of which he has successfully climbed so far. Damian is also the man behind “Freezbrury" an extreme challenge that gained traction this year throughout Ireland. Freezbrury challenges participants to get in the ocean every day of February in Ireland when the water is at its coldest. The hardcore challengers must add 1 minute each day of February when getting in the ocean where they will finish on day 29 and spend a total of 29 minutes in the relentless Atlantic Ocean! Collectively Freezbrury raised over €30,000 for Pieta House while also raising awareness for mental health. Here are some of the things we talked about in today’s episode:
