The Locard Principle

Listen Later

Neil recently discovered a textbook on forensics and was reminded of Edmond Locard who created the first crime lab. He presented the theory, The Locard Principle, that every criminal brings something  to a crime scene and also leaves with something and both of these can be utilised in forensic detection. Equally, every contact between tutor and student will also leave a trace of the exchange, as Neil details.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Locard invented the principle of every contact leaves a trace, or, with contact between two items there will be an exchange.
  • A constant stream of exchanged information flows between student and tutor.
  • Gather evidence at the end of your day. What did you learn? What did you teach? What feedback did you get? With each detail you can improve.

BEST MOMENTS

“Wherever he steps, whatever he touches, whatever he leaves, even unconsciously, will serve as a silent witness against him.” - Paul Kirk

‘Every student teaches us to be better in the same way that we would teach them to learn and grow and to become better themselves.’

‘Ask yourself what worked today and what didn’t. What can I do more of?’
