We had Gloria on the show last season and I have invited her back to talk about her new book ‘Intentioning: Sex, Power, Pandemics, and How Women Will Take The Lead for (Everyone's) Good’.  

Gloria is a New York Times bestselling author and an absolutely amazing woman.   

We talked about racial and gender injustice, what the pandemic has meant to women, and what men can do in this fight for women’s rights.  

Gloria also explained why there’s such a need for systemic change in society, the problem with power positions, and what it’s like for women in the restaurant industry...

Tony Kamel is a singer-songwriter, musician, podcaster, and lead singer of the Grammy nominated bluegrass band, Wood & Wire.

Tony’s just released his first solo album ‘Back Down Home’, and has started a podcast that looks at the making album and all of the influences that happened behind the scenes.  

We talked about this album, the stories behind some of his songs and what it’s been like making an accompanying podcast.

This is our very first remote interview as I traveled to Lamb IV gym in Fort Worth, Texas to record this episode.   

Here I met with the owner, coach Durwyn Lamb to talk about food, his gym and MMA fighting.  

Durwyn is a great character, full of energy, well-spoken, incredibly inspirational and motivational, and we had a barrel of laughs chatting away.  

We talked about his growing up in Texas, how he started his own gym, the positives of MMA and who our favorite fighters are.

Brian T. Atkinson is an author, producer, and record label owner, and has a new book coming out on November 15th, ‘True Love Cast Out All Evil: The Songwriting Legacy of Roky Erickson’.  

I managed to get my hands on an early copy, and it is an awesome look at Texas music history and the crazy life of Roky Erickson.  

In this interview, we didn’t only talk about the book, but Brian T. Atkinson also asked me a few questions about interviewing and the podcast, and shared some great Austin food recommendations...

‘Good Ol Girl’ tells the story of 3 different Texan women who work in the farming and the ranching industry. It’s an incredibly inspiring film and it even got me crying a couple of times.  

The team behind the film joined me to explain how they got access to this usually closed-off community, how they filmed the documentary, and which stories touched them the most...

I met Dr. Kermit Jones when I was a guest on his podcast ‘On Call with Dr. Kermit.’ Now he is running for office in California’s 4th Congressional District, and I wanted to chat to him about that and many other things.

We talk about his upcoming campaign for Congress, national politics, and how politicians can maintain their integrity and keep the public’s trust.

We also dive into the pandemic and vaccines, and it’s just great to have a doctor’s insight into what’s true, what’s not, and how we’ve got to this point of so much confusion.

We’re kicking off Season 4 of The Lone Star Plate with an amazing guest, a bright young actress Emma Malouff. Emma is co-starring with Sarah Paulson in Impeachment: American Crime Story, a series by Ryan Murphy about the 1990s Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, streaming on FX. In the series she plays Allison Tripp, the daughter of Linda Tripp whose tapes exposed the Clinton-Lewinsky affair.   

Emma spent a good portion of her life living in Austin where she discovered her passion for food, and now she lives in LA, committed to her acting career.   

We chatted about how she got her role in Impeachment, how it was working with Sarah Paulson, and what she expects the audience to take away from the show.   

Of course, we give shoutouts to amazing places to eat in Austin, and Emma sure knows her stuff about cooking and baking.
