Ashoka was formed in 1980 by Bill Drayton with the mission of investing in the people and creating patterns of collaborative entrepreneurship, which are necessary in an ‘everyone’s a changemaker’ world. Or to put another way, make the world a better place by teaching people to create positive change. Who can argue with that?

On today’s episode Bill and I chat about all sorts of things economy and his wisdom and insights are wonderful to absorb.

Bill is found and current CEO of Ashoka. Ashoka launches and unites the world’s leading social entrepreneurs with over 3,700 start-ups. Ashoka brings big systems-change to the world’s most urgent social challenges. Over half of the Ashoka entrepreneurs have changed national policy within five years of launching their businesses.

Bill was a consultant with McKinsey and Company and has taught at Stanford and Harvard. He was also an Assistant Administrator at the Environmental Protection Agency and chairs Get America Working!

She serves on the National Women’s Law Center Gender Equity Network and provides legal advice to victims of harassment.

The evolution of the legality of smoking marijuana has kept pace with the other social changes in our society. In today’s episode of You’re Hired we speak with our expert labor lawyer Jim Reidy from Sheehan Phinney and political director for NORML, Justin Strekal. We will explore the current laws and cultural shifts in how the workplace relates to employees who smoke weed.

Jim is a partner with Sheehan Phinney Bass & Green in Manchester New Hampshire where he is the chair of their Labor and Employment Practice Group. Jim represents management in all matters of workplace issues. Most recently he was asked to comment on the workplace impact of changing marijuana laws.

Justin is the Political Director for NORML, where he served as an advocate to end the federal prohibition of marijuana and to reform our nation’s laws to no longer treat pot consumers as second class citizens. Justin works with the Congressional Cannabis Caucus and is a strategist to NORML chapters.

She is a forward thinking immigration compliance authority and EB-5 investment strategist.

Our guest Juan is originally from Mexico and works in the food and beverage for a Hispanic grocery and dairy company. He has been living in the United States since August 2013 under an L2 Visa.

Christian was elected to the Arlington County Board in 2015 continuing two decades of service to the community. Mr. Dorsey also serves on the Board of Directors for the Metro system and the Council of Governments. Professionally, Christian was a senior leader at the Economic Policy Institute, a think tank that promotes economic policies that foster broadly shared prosperity. Mr. Dorsey resides in the Columbia Forest neighborhood with his wife and two children.

David Tarter has been the Mayor of Falls Church since 2014 and is also a partner at Tarter NoVa Law, helping found the firm back in March 2013.

Today on my show we hear adventure stories from FBI Chief Explosives Scientist Kirk Yeager, Adventurer Robert Williscroft, and Private Investigator Alison Caine as they share what it took for them to have these exciting jobs and a few stories from the trenches.

Robert is a retired submariner, scientist, and adventurer. He spent time underwater, at the equatorial Pacific, and a year at the Geographic South Pole conducting atmospheric research and he holds a PhD.

Kirk has been with the FBI for sixteen years. Currently, he is their Chief Explosives Scientist. Kirk has a fondness for things that go boom, chemistry, and engineering. Also, he is considering becoming a superhero in his spare time.

Alison has worked for the last twenty-eight years as a legal investigator or as we like to say, a private detective. She does research into complex civil and criminal defense litigation on many issues such as child abduction and sex trafficking.
