After a short hiatus, Molly and Tricia are back! Due to Hurricane Michael hitting Tricia’s home of Panama City Beach a few weeks ago, we decided to take some time off to heal and reflect. For this reason, today’s episode focuses on communication through tragedy.
How do we help a loved one who is suffering? One of our biggest challenges in life is communicating with someone experiencing loss, tragedy, or grief. What do we say? Will they even want to talk to us? In this episode, Molly and Tricia draw from personal experiences to discuss the importance of reaching out, regardless of timing or relationship, and how to do it.
We appreciate you staying with us after this break! If you want to help those still recovering from Hurricane Michael, please follow this link: https://www.redcross.org/donate/hurricane-michael-donations.html/
*note: we aim to keep our episodes unscripted and (largely) unedited to provide an example of communication in its natural form.*

When people say, “Travel is the ultimate relationship test,” they’re not kidding! But why? In this episode, Molly and Tricia pull from their recent travel experiences to discuss communication with travel partners. Navigating a different culture, deviating from your comfortable routine, and spending 24/7 with someone (or multiple people) warrants particular communication strategies in order to create a successful travel experience.
Let travel should strengthen your bond, not break it!

Speaking and communicating are not synonymous. In fact, they are two separate beasts (with a lot of overlap!). If our words, voice, and non-verbal cues don’t align, our entire message can be misinterpreted.
In this episode, Molly and Tricia discuss factors in communication that go beyond speaking. What do we convey without any words at all? How is what we say impacted by the way we say it? How can we become better speakers and listeners by understanding communication as a whole?

It should be noted that while this statistic was used throughout the episode, there is much debate over the exact number. However, there is no question that communication consists of much more than just words!

All texts are not created equal. Have you ever thought about how many factors go into a simple little text message? Period or no period? How many exclamation points? Emojis?! Don’t even get us started….
In today’s episode, Molly and Tricia talk about getting to know the “style” of those you text the most. By understanding formatting and frequency of our fellow texters, we can reduce the number of text-based communication mishaps. We discuss things like punctuation, frequency of texts, and (not) playing the waiting game.

Since when is “ghost” a verb? And how does feigning your disappearance actually affect others?
In today’s episode, Molly and Tricia discuss the psychological ramifications of being ghosted, why it’s horrific, and how we can all do it less. They use personal (even painful!) examples of times they’ve been ghosted, times they could have not ghosted someone else, and times they actively sought verbal closure. You may walk away from this episode reaching out to ghosts of your past!

Turns out, we all talk to ourselves! What’s more, the things we tell ourselves can impact our communication with others, as well as our overall happiness.
In this episode, Molly and Tricia discuss the importance of self-compassion, how we can identify our own thought patterns, and why improving our relationship with ourselves can foster deeper connections with others. You don't want to skip today's homework - it's more important than you think. Don’t be alarmed if your reflection starts talking back!
