Let’s go way back this week to the unsolved mystery of Roanoke Colony. This was to be the first place for English immigrants to settle into the New World of America back in the late 1500s. Over 112 men, women and children took the long journey over for a new start, far from the religious persecution they faced in England. Unfortunately, it would not be the land of milk and honey they had been sold from those who traveled to the Outer Banks islands before them. 

They would be left to fend for themselves after what seemed to be an act of sabotage. Long story short, the colonists ended up on the island of Roanoke where they faced scarce resources, tensions with the local native americans and no way to leave. Their governor, John White, left to advocate for help and when he returned 3 years later, it was as if they never existed. All the settlers had vanished without a trace. The only clue left behind? A carving in the tree which read Croatoan.
