hello dear Lucid Friends,

here’s another hour of of electronic listening pleasure for you and an interview with the guys from ARC – Charlie & Tetsu. Find out why they’d throw a party in space, on a deathstar… ;-)

Interview:

1. Lucidflow: How does a creative day look/feel like for you?

Tetsu – To be honest a good day coffee usually does the trick to get the day started. I like to try and pick up the tendrils of my dreams from the night before. Find some fleeting image or feeling to try and hold onto. Giving my work a disconnected energy. Like a part of me is off fighting in Demons in an altered reality lol. I live for the narrative of music. So if I can find a narrative close to home re: music, it can usually be inspired for me by a dream. :) ←-

Charlie – For me, I have long periods where I feel like i’m in a very good creative place, and then equally as long periods when I am formulating ideas in my head of music I feel like writing which represent personal experiences . But when I wake up each morning I know immediately if its a day for writing music or not. I’ll work solidly without stopping for a really long time if i’m in that special creative flow…I like to think it pays off at the end.

2. Lucidflow: How do you hinder yourself / what keeps you from being creative?

Tetsu – Second guessing my work. I’m my own worse critic. I sit on mountains of tracks, which drives my partner mad. I’m a terrible procrastinator. I’m a terrible dreamer. But, Dream none the less.

Charlie- Over-thinking my music is what hinders me most. When i’m working on something I will often sleep on it and the next day find so much I want to change, and this goes on and on, although recently i’ve managed to get over that. Which i’ve found opens up a whole new world of creative opportunity, when one let’s go of over-thinking their creative projects..

3. Lucidflow: how do you support yourself in being creative?

Tetsu -I run a company focused in Luxury Leather Accessories (Original Satchel Store) I set this up so I could focus on creative endeavours. I try and spend 6hrs a day listening to new music from around the world. New rhythm’s and Drums. I also try to keep my eye on the industry and seek out new collaborations with artists and promoters I respect. Just trying to keep the energy positive and focused helps me stay creative. Having Charlie working with me has been a blessing in keeping my focus and confidence. It’s a murky world music, nice to have someone help you see the light in it.

Charlie- I always find myself doing loads of different things, but over the past year or so i’ve been composing a lot of music, sound scapes, anything that I’m feeling at the time, recording them and using them for film and TV soundtracking. I really love it and it allows me to spend the time I want working with Tetsu both producing and exploring new music. Our different styles and backgrounds work in a way that means when we collaborate after working alone its so much fun. We’ll spend long periods of time locked in the studio learning from eachother. We tour for 5 months of the year, also playing residencies in the south of France, our favourite being Robinson’s in Canet, France, which is from June until September. So lots of new things on the way from us this summer..

4. Lucidflow: How did you come across Lucidflow?

Tetsu – After hearing Nadja’s track “ Making a difference “ I looked into her back catalogue and also her label history. Wonderful rich and layered.

Charlie – I saw Nadja at one of the first Open parties in London a couple of years ago, she smashed it so I did the inevitable post- party research..

5. Lucidflow: Tell us one of your greatest wishes:

Tetsu – To be able to support myself and loved ones by making and creating music which I can then share with whoever has an ear for it. It’s a fantastic feeling when the track “ clicks “, being able to dedicate my time to telling stories through music. That’s my greatest wish musically speaking.

Charlie – To be honest its pretty similar to Tetsu for me as well, I really love what we do, and I want to be at a point where I can do it every day. We work so well together so were always going to keep at it. Music is a perfect avenue for self expression, so I want to share those experiences all the time.

6. Lucidflow: If you had an infinite amount of time and money what would you do?:

Tetsu – Take over the world and start again.

Charlie – Throw a party in space, on the deathstar that Tetsu built.

7. Who is your personal hero and why?

Tetsu – I don’t have any Heroes. There’s just respect. I respect a great many people, those larger then life and then those quiet storms. Everyone has a story to tell if we just listen, everyone is there own hero and villain.

Charlie – I have musical heroes, like Jim Morrison and Miles Davis, but the word hero is subjective, good and bad is in the eye of the beholder..but Tetsu’s right, its about respect, so I would say I don’t have any heroes in life.

8. Lucidflow: Anything else you’d like to spread to the Lucid world?
