Then, Sam and Emma are joined by Matthew Film Guy! First, Emma and Sam run through updates on Manhattan’s prosecution of Donald Trump, Biden’s new tax plans, the RNC teaming up with Ronny DeSantis (who privately has affirmed a 2024 presidential campaign), Santos’ prolific history of scamming, a potential Saudi-Iran deal, and Manchin’s possible run vs Biden in 2024. They also tackle Nikki Haley positioning herself to be Ron DeSantis’ VP before Digby joins to dive deeper into this Republican rift that we see forming between Donald Trump’s crazy CPAC coalition, and the Republican donor class’ attempt to juxtapose Ron DeSantis’ “moderate” fascism against it, looking particularly to the rhetoric about entitlements and the deficit that is coming out of the two camps. Looking forwards, Digby walks Emma and Sam through Donald Trump’s likeliest routes to victory, before they wrap up the interview by tackling Joe Biden’s confirmed and likely challengers in a Democratic Primary. Matthew Film Guy then joins to run his soft propaganda campaign for H. Jon Benjamin, assessing the (once again) lackluster Oscar nominations, and giving his own film suggestions of “Post Tenebras Lux” and “Margaret.”

And in the Fun Half: Ed Markey goes after Norfolk Southern executives’ desire to escape accountability for the disaster in East Palestine and JD Vance forgets that deregulation is actually what caused the incident. A GOP Lt. Gov faces accusations of twink love (who amongst us!) after promoting multiple homophobic bills, and Matt Taibbi gets smacked around by Democratic establishment shills because he genuinely makes it that easy. First, Emma runs through updates on investigations into misconduct in the Louisville and Memphis Police Departments, Mitch McConnell’s hospitalization, Ed Markey’s staff unionizing, the Michigan House’s recent legislation, Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ loosening of child labor regulations, and the climbing Palestinian death toll in Israel’s 2023 apartheid regime, before diving deeper into an interaction with Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin as he tells a Teamster representative to “shut [his] mouth” in a meeting about worker exploitation and union busting. Nick Seabrook then joins as he dives right into gerrymandering as a uniquely American problem, highlighting the fundamental conflict of interest in having representatives control the borders of the regions that elect them, a problem that the founding fathers actively wrought on the country. After exploring the nature of the founding fathers’ gerrymandering, Seabrook steps back to explore how gerrymandering emerged from the British political tradition of “rotten boroughs,” which served to allow MPs to maintain corrupt influence under the veneer of democracy, a tactic that they extended in the cutting up of foreign lands under settler-colonialism, only for it to be curbed as a tactic in Europe and highlighted as a tactic in the US. Next, Nick walks Emma through the 1800s and the coining of the term “gerrymandering” in the US, up to the Supreme Court stepping in in the 1960s to mandate the “one person-one vote” electoral system that we employ today, before they wrap up the interview by tackling the racial vote dilution that followed, the impact of the Voting Rights Act, and where the undermining of the Act has left our electoral system. Tim Shorrock takes us through the history of Japanese imperialism in Korea and the role the US played in the matter, before exploring the false advertisement of Secretary Blinken’s agreement as “reparations,” and why this PR move by the US serves to inflame tensions between the US, North Korea, and China.

Wrapping up, they emphasize why the backlash to successful welfare programs – from the CTC to Medicare – is actually about undermining the revelation that our economic system doesn’t actually have to function the way we pretend it does.

He pairs this with former President Trump, who seemingly has gotten his groove back, continuing to piledrive Ron DeSantis over his support for cutting so-called "entitlements." Then, Sam's joined by Meron as they dive into the recent demonstrations in Israel over the judicial "reforms" that President Netanyahu and his far-right coalition want to implement, as well as the tremendous violence that has occurred over the last few days in Israeli settlements. Meron goes so far as to consider this one of, if not the most combustible time in history internally within Israel. Then, David and Ryan join Sam to break down their new bombshell reporting in ProPublica about Liberty HealthShare, a healthcare sharing ministry that, under the auspices of providing health services as a religiously affiliated non-profit, avoided almost all regulatory scrutiny while committing massive amounts of fraud.

And in the Fun Half, Sam and the gang  touch on poor "Meatball" Ron DeSanctimonious trying to hit back (weakly) at Trump on Fox while Trump runs wild on Seb Gorka's program, the new China hysteria on Capitol Hill  coming from FBI Director Wray on the lab leak and Rep. Sam is back! He and Emma speak with Naomi Oreskes, professor of the History of Science at Harvard University, author of The Big Myth: How American Business Taught Us to Loathe Government and Love the Free Market, co-authored with Erik Conway. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on another “low-confidence” government report on COVID emerging from a Wuhan lab, Biden’s student debt relief plan coming to the floor of the Supreme Court, political protests breaking out in Mexico, the recent report on child labor in the US, Fox’s internal censorship ahead of Dominion’s multi-billion-dollar lawsuit against them, and Elon Musk’s commitment to being awful both publicly and privately, before diving into the death-knell in DeSantis’ presidential hopes: a Jeb Bush endorsement. Professor Naomi Oreskes then joins as she dives right into her work with Erik Conway exploring why intelligent people are so inclined to completely reject hard-won, well-established scientific evidence (from global warming to the impacts of child labor), and the government regulations that would best address the issues that are discovered, first taking on the influence of market fundamentalism on denouncing any and all attempts at government regulation. Professor Oreskes then walks Sam and Emma through the ideology of market fundamentalism, exploring the ever-looming threat of communism and the myth of the free market in creating a fundamental threat to liberty juxtaposed with a utopian and organic economic system, making any restraint on the market a step towards the return to serfdom, before shifting to how market fundamentalism was able to capitalize on pre-existing elements of US culture such as hyper-individualism and the deification of property rights. Moving into the evolution of this fundamentalist ideology in the West, Naomi Oreskes parses through the debates around child labor regulation, energy provision, and labor compensation to show how the ideology of market fundamentalism was laundered from the elites through academia and the electoral system during the first half of the 20th Century, alongside a mass investment into cultural propaganda align public opinion with their aims. Wrapping up, Sam, Emma, and Naomi explore the greater ideologies behind the emergence of market fundamentalism, from the Mont Pelerin society to Friedman and Hayek, and tackle why embracing truth to combat propaganda is necessary to win the battle.

And in the Fun Half: Emma and Sam parse through Charlie Kirk’s beliefs on the sociopolitical role of witches, Scott Adams’ insane “Black people are a hate group” statements which, unsurprisingly, got Elon Musk’s full approval, and Jesse Watters’ conversation with Tulsi Gabbard on why diversity is at the heart of all American issues. They also do a little early GOP-primary coverage, exploring Trump’s many targets, and debate the influence of Ben Shapiro’s failed dreams on his disgusting politics, plus, your IMs!
