  • I Love Life; I'd Like To Do It Again

There were odd stories about him; as that when children died he went part of the way with them, so that they should not be frightened. –J. M. Barrie, Peter and Wendy

Mr. Darling used to boast to Wendy that her mother not only loved him but respected him. He was one of those deep ones who know about stocks and shares. Of course no one really knows, but he quite seemed to know, and he often said stocks were up and shares were down in a way that would have made any woman respect him. –J. M. Barrie, Peter and Wendy

When George Burns was 97, he sang that he'd like to "do it again." How lovely.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qyBXrRINxc

Food cost about 18% of disposable income in 1960. By 2013 it was under 10%.

Every child is affected… the first time he is treated unfairly. All he thinks he has a right to when he comes to you to be yours is fairness. After you have been unfair to him he will love you again, but he will never afterwards be quite the same boy. –J. M. Barrie, Peter and Wendy

  • Constitutional Carry and Unhinged Moral Confidence

"Believers in [disarmament] not only regard their own method of preserving peace as more effective, their sense of moral superiority is apparent when they declare themselves to be "anti-war,," part of "the peace movement," and use other terms which strongly suggest that the difference between themselves and those with opposite views are due to their being devoted to peace, while others are either warlike or not as committed to peace as themselves, if not venal mouthpieces for military industries."  -Sowell

Mike Dewine signed Constitutional Carry into law in Ohio.  I discuss the leftwing reaction.

There is a certain kind of doctor who became a doctor so they could tell everyone they're a doctor.

  • Jussie Smollett Got Jailtime Thank God

America is way better than Russia, China How do I know? If I said "way worse," I wouldn’t be arrested.

Jussie Smollett is sentenced to jail time. All the people you'd think would have nothing but daggers for a hoaxer like Smollett have his back though: The NAACP, Jesse Jackson to name two. Why?

One of the mysteries of the ages is why the political left has, for centuries, lavished so much attention on the well-being of criminals and paid so little attention to their victims. –Thomas Sowell

  • Looking Good and Doing Bad

"The romantic view of the natural world as a blissful Eden is only held by people who have no actual experience of nature. People who live in nature are not romantic about it at all."  –Michael Crichton

Jen Psaki has now told us that both oil is coming in just as if there were a pipeline and the pipeline wouldn't decrease oil prices. It's now obvious: this administration wanted to appear good while doing bad and has succeeded.

“The nut on the sidewalk carrying the placard that predicts the end of the world doesn't quit when the world doesn't end on the day he expects. He just changes his placard, sets a new doomsday date, and goes back to walking the streets.”  -Michael Crichton

  • Everybody's Freaking Out

“Let us not, in the pride of our superior knowledge, turn with contempt from the follies of our predecessors. The study of the errors into which great minds have fallen in the pursuit of truth can never be uninstructive. As the man looks back to the days of his childhood and his youth, and recalls to his mind the strange notions and false opinions that swayed his actions at the time, that he may wonder at them; so should society, for its edification, look back to the opinions which governed ages that fled.” ― Charles MacKay

I can't recall a disagreement in which both sides were roughly equally hysterical.

"In one way we think a great deal too much of the atomic bomb. ‘How are we to live in an atomic age?’ I am tempted to reply: ‘Why, as you would have lived in the sixteenth century when the plague visited London almost every year, or as you would have lived in a Viking age when raiders from Scandinavia might land and cut your throat any night; or indeed, as you are already living in an age of cancer, an age of syphilis, an age of paralysis, an age of air raids, an age of railway accidents, an age of motor accidents.’" -CS Lewis

  • We Need Bail Reform. The Other Way.

“There are no solutions, only tradeoffs.”  -Thomas Sowell

We once built mental hospitals because we thought it was cruel to keep imprisoning the insane.  I don't know which was preferable, but I am certain that the worst solution is neither imprisonment nor insitutionalization of the out-of-control insane in our society since it is not only cruel to the insane themselves, but also to the sane who happen to cross their paths.  This is our current situation.

If poverty caused crime, nuns would do drive-bys.

  • Putin

“I must have gone through $10 million during my career. Part of the loot went for gambling, part for horses and part for women. The rest I spent foolishly.” -George Raft

The big story of the day: Russia invading Ukraine. What's behind it? I don't buy the reasons he provides, since they're absurd.

Almost everyone in the media appears to be on team Putin or team Xi. I'm revolted by both men in roughly equal measure.

The UN Secretary General told Putin just days ago to "Give peace a chance." LOL

"I believe the conservatives need to push back against the ungrateful habit of blaming the West by pointing repeatedly to the self-inflicted wounds of the Third World." –Amy Wax

  • The Trouble With Capital Punishment

"The second item in the liberal creed, after self-righteousness, is unaccountability. Liberals have invented whole college majors— psychology, sociology, women's studies— to prove that nothing is anybody's fault. No one is fond of taking responsibility for his actions, but consider how much you'd have to hate free will to come up with a political platform that advocates killing unborn babies but not convicted murderers. A callous pragmatist might favor abortion and capital punishment. A devout Christian would sanction neither. But it takes years of therapy to arrive at the liberal view." –PJ O’Rourke

The death penalty is one of those issues in which both sides are genuinely, deeply troubling. However you or I resolve them, there they still are undiminished. Anybody with a glib answer on the topic should be ignored as either brainless or heartless.

"I don't care what denomination you belong it, as long as you're embarrassed by it." -Rabbi Yitz Greenberg (unverified)

  • I Blame the People

It is an act of honesty to demonize demons.

A woman in New York was slaughtered by a monster.  A "career criminal" they call him in the media.  But this prompts a question in the mind of any thinking man:  Why would a career criminal not have been in career prison?

It's very easy to exonerate the people and blame politicians.  But where do the politicians come from?

“Many on the political left are so entranced by the beauty of their vision that they cannot see the ugly reality they are creating in the real world.”  -Thomas Sowell
