Timing is very important.
My trash company is issuing "naughty" and "nice" recycling lists. This makes me want to put "naughty" items out for collection.
"Why didn't the USA switch to metric?"
A top parenting website: "Hitting children teaches them that it is okay for big people to hit little people, and that it is okay to vent anger through violence. Now, I know there will be times when your toddler will make you really angry, but learning toddler-ese can give you an outlet for your frustration: Vent your anger by clapping and growling..." LOL
“There is no history or experience from which the wrong lesson cannot be drawn. That two wrongs do not make a rich is a cliché, of course, but in our conduct we often disregard the truth it expresses. If drought is bad, it does not follow that a flood will be an unqualified good.” - Theodore Dalrymple
Patrick Dexter Cello on Youtube played Auld Lang Syne and I liked it.
"Life was better in the distant past," says the guy who never washes his clothes by hand nor mills grain on a stone, to say nothing of getting scalped by the tribe across the river.
"Should Old Acquaintance be forgot, and never thought upon; The flames of Love extinguished, and fully past and gone: Is thy sweet Heart now grown so cold, that loving Breast of thine; That thou canst never once reflect On old long syne."
My wife called 911 on a long drive the other day. Her willingness to transmit information directly is questioned.
"Be really sure someone is your enemy before treating them like one." -Ava Petrucci
“The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.” ― L.P. Hartley
CO gunman murdered five. A policeman killed him. Why isn't he a national hero, on the tip of every tongue?
Kwanzaa is a socialist, racist holiday founded by a black nationalist who tortured women.
“Men do not care how nobly they live, but only how long, although it is within the reach of every man to live nobly, but within no man's power to live long.” -Seneca
The idea that a word is "offensive" is an expression of fashion and nothing more. Your offensive words will, down to every last one, be inoffensive to future generations. The words you use will appall them and they will think you were immoral for uttering them.
Everybody chastises those who talk bad about people behind their back. Not me.
When I look up a past news event on Wikipedia, it ought to have a “media interest score.” Like, 1-10 how much time did media spend on the story, did it go national etc. Like:
Stephen Halton Jr was killed on his way to work at the Cleveland Clinic in 2014. There have been ten articles written on him. There have been more than 24,000 on Michael Brown.
I’m not the first to notice many of the businesses the old left would have hated the most are uber-woke. Big tech, big banks, big oil for example.
Seems like self defense: Safe from the left due to their leftist policy, safe from the right due to business-friendly ideology.
"FDR didn’t do anything about a major cause of 90 percent of the bank failures, namely, state and federal unit banking laws. These limited banks to a single office, preventing them from diversifying their loan portfolios and their source of funds. Unit banks were highly vulnerable to failure when local business conditions were bad, because all their loans were to local people, many of whom were in default, and all their deposits came from local people who were withdrawing their money. Canada, which permitted nationwide branch banking, didn’t have a single bank failure during the Great Depression."
“David Lawrence, founder of US News & World Report, warned, 'Confiscation of wealth may satisfy the vengeful in us. It may sooth a retaliatory spirit. But it is the path of national suicide...There must always be the reward motive. To many people it is but another way to set goals of human ambition...When government kills the opportunity to earn, it sounds the death knell of the opportunity to serve.'"
–Jim Powell, FDR’s Folly
“Too many in your state [Pennsylvania], as in this [New York], love pure democracy dearly. They seem not to consider that pure democracy, like pure rum, easily produces intoxication, and with it a thousand mad pranks and fooleries.” ― John Jay
Joe Manchin has defected, at least for now. The left's reaction has been predictable. Hysteria, lies, and the desire to change the structure of our government.
What I learned from Henry Clay.
"I would rather be right than to be President.” ― Henry Clay
Our ignorance is the raw material of every extortion from which we suffer, and we may be certain beforehand that every fallacy is the precursor of an act of plunder. My good friends! when you detect a fallacy in a petition, button up your wallet-pocket, for you may be sure that this is the mark aimed at. - Frederick Bastiat
A racing driver survived a horrible wreck thanks to tons of technology which mean that, though he would have died in 1990 in the same wreck, he was fine now. And everybody thanked God instead of the men who did the work. We don't do this with other forms of work: When the girl at McDonalds hands me the bag, I don't thank God, I thank her.
"Realtor.com has removed crime data from its website..." Why? Social justice. The left cares about dozens of things more than about the murder of innocent people qua innocent people.
"Doing the right thing is easy. [It is] much more difficult [to...] figure out what [the right thing] is." -Harry Truman
"The left doesn't fight evil, it fights the right." -Dennis Prager
Joe Biden is harder on Georgia than China. Why?
"You either fight evil or you fight those who fight evil." -Dennis Prager
“When people are trying to see how far they can push things, that is the time to let them know that they have already pushed things too far.” -Thomas Sowell
Jussie Smollett is found guilty. Because obviously.
A Christmas tree outside of FNC was set ablaze. A Fox bigwhig said it was an "act of cowardice." What?
There is a process by which things seem to get worse and worse as they get better and better: It has everything to do with the business practices of our media.
"Good people know about both good and evil: bad people do not know about either.” -CS Lewis
"The first thing a man will do for his ideals is lie." -Joseph A. Schumpeter
The FBI released a 752-word report on the Dayton mass shooter from 2019. It contains an obvious lie.
During the Blitz: "Warden: ‘Are there any expectant mothers in this shelter?’ Woman: ‘Give us a chance! We’ve only been here ten minutes!’" -Caryl Abrahams
