  • John A. Carman – Government Whistleblower
“To be silent is giving consent…I will do neither.”
On this episode of The Mallliard Report Jim welcomes a guest that has a list of accomplishments and accolades that would impress even the most ambitious of people. A long term veteran of law enforcement and seeing a career that has spanned across several decades, John Carman has served as a member of The Secret Service (protecting the President, First Family, and many other prominent heads of state), worked as a San Diego Police officer, US Mint Police (protecting gold bullion at the US Federal Depository in San Francisco), and as an agent for the US Customs and Border Patrol. While John served many honorable years and was recognized for his outstanding service, this is not the reason as to why he is garnering negative attention from unwanted sources. John is a whistleblower. A whistleblower in a field where a lot of money is moved and made.
During his tenure as a customs agent, John received many commendations for his outstanding work. He was responsible for some of the biggest smuggling busts; drugs, money, people, you name it. As with any agent worth his salt, John paid attention to the goings on around him. This is where he began to notice that some things were not on the up and up. Other agents would downplay the amount of narcotics found on a bust to lessen a sentence. Superiors would take bribes and kickbacks in order to let some dealings slide under the radar. The various Mexican cartels would “adopt” other agents as a sort of “in” in order to have things go favorably for them. Some (very large) confiscations would just go “missing”, and airplanes owned and operated by our government were known to be moving narcotics and allowed to forego any inspection whatsoever. John drives the magnitude of this point by noting that when astronauts returned from their trip to the moon, that they themselves had to undergo a customs inspection and officially declare the rocks and other materials that they had brought back. So how does a DEA plane skip an inspection?
In addition to learning about the activity that goes on behind the scenes of the Customs and Border Patrol, John openly shares how his life has changed since he became a whistle blower. He goes into detail about coworkers treating him with a sense of resentment even after an interview with complete anonymity, physical attacks upon him, “visits” from cartel members, and much, much more. John warns that while being a whistleblower is the right thing to do when it is necessitated, it does however come with a hefty price. He also states that anyone that should happen to take on the role of whistleblower should be prepared for the rough road that lays ahead. John shares how he empathizes with what people such as Edward Snowden and Julian Assange have to deal with on a daily basis. John also discusses the failed “war on drugs” and the US’ involvement in the shipment and distribution of narcotics, and much more
This interview makes for a fantastic episode, and this write up does not even begin to scratch the surface. In fact, the interview itself fails to even begin to catalog what all John has to share. Jim eludes to several other episodes in the near future with John, and tantalizes us with a bombshell of a story that he just will not give up yet! So you have to stay tuned!
Be sure to head over to www.customscorruption.com to see some of the work that John has done in the past. While the site may be a bit dated, the information itself is incredibly informative and eye opening. • Micah Hanks – Paranormal Author and Podcaster
To say that this week’s guest is a busy man is a gross understatement. When he isn’t laying down that bluegrass sound and singing about a rendezvous with Baton Rouge; you may be able to catch him on his own podcast The Gralien Report, or read one of his many articles, or publications. This tireless troubadour is none other than Micah Hanks. Micah joins Jim on this episode to discuss inside baseball of the podcasting world and what the future may hold for the genre, third party politics, and how small seemingly mundane things can actually be significant paranormal events.
Media and journalism (media being a generalized term for podcasting, video creation, blogging, et al.) is at an interesting crossroads right now. What was once a hobby for only those with a lot of money, has quickly evolved into medium that can be utilized by anyone and with minimal resources required. While this has provided an opportunity for information that may have been previously subdued or even completely hidden to be brought to the forefront, this has also allowed for garbage to slip in and muddy the waters. This just means that we have to be more discerning when it comes to the information that we intake. Micah suggests that we take an informed look at the information out there and come to our own conclusions. Micah also eludes to the notion that the art of podcasting is certainly not fading into the sunset, but rather seeing a paradigm shift that will see much more user generated content.
The 2016 election. What else can you say other than that? Someone once referred to this election as like having to choose to open one of two doors: Door numero uno has an angry bear ready to maul you, and behind door number two there is an angry tiger ready to rip you to shreds. Which mauling do you want? But is that really all we have to pick from? Are these two options really the best representation of what all of our country stands for? What about a third option? This year has shown one of the largest increases in interest in the third party options for a candidate. The Malliard Report in no way discourages or encourages any particular candidate, but rather recommends that everyone should research all options and vote for the option that you think is the best suited for the position.
With a podcast name of “The Gralien Report”, and his stories of chasing down the Brown Mountain lights, you would think that this would be some of the most influential parts of Micah’s paranormal experiences. However, it is not. He does not undermine the complexity of these topics, but he is quick to point out that one of the heaviest hitting paranormal topics is one that is very easily pushed out of mind. This paradox is the idea of synchronicity; the universe falling into place while dropping little clues eluding to the outcome of future events. Some may write off this idea as simply coincidental, while others cite déjà vu. Micah discusses dreams that not only he, but also his friends had, that lead to similar future events. Next time a situation comes up, and you think “hmmm…that is odd. I feel like I’ve been here before…” you might just be receiving a sort of message if you will, from the unknown.
After you give this episode a listen, head over to www.micahhanks.com to follow the many different projects that our busy guest is a part of and check out his band Nitrograss on YouTube. Let us know what you thought of the episode, or share any of your odd synchronistic experiences in comments below or on Twitter

  • Brooke Lewis – Actress
When faced with fear, dig deep inside, find your inner ‘vamp’ and Vamp It Out!”
These are the motivating words from an award winning actress, author, certified life coach, crowned “Scream Queen”, and self-professed “hot mess.” This week on The Malliard Report, Jim welcomes the beautiful and talented Brooke Lewis to talk about her busy career, the hauntings within her home, and to share how difficult creative gigs really are. (Both professionally and hobbyist levels)

While Brooke has had a successful, genre spanning career, some of her most notable roles are from the mystery thriller “iMurders”, mobster flick “Sinatra Club”, and of course her comedic and passion project alter-ego “Ms. Vampy”. Growing up in Philadelphia, Brooke quickly learned that her desire was for acting and soon left the City of Brotherly Love for her break at The Big Apple. After spending some time in a number of larger, Off-Broadway roles, the call of the sun and surf from the left coast became too strong so she packed up her things and headed for Hollywood. Brooke continues to reside in California but has not forgotten her PA roots and has since started “Philly Chick Pictures” which allows her more acting and writing opportunities. Brooke is also very active in multiple philanthropic endeavors that include women fighting breast cancer, at risk teens, and female empowerment.

Brooke is no stranger to the paranormal both on and off screen. While claiming to have never been on an “official” ghost hunt, she has had a number of regular encounters with spirits within her own home, and one even has a crush on her! But you have to listen to the episode for the details on that story. Brooke also admits that one of the most interesting things to do while in Los Angeles is to go on the “Dearly Departed” tour. So, while she may claim to have not been on a ghost hunt before, it sure seems like has been in enough situations to where ghosts are able to make their presence known.

The interview with Brooke is hilarious and incredibly fast paced and absolutely worth the listen. You can keep up with Brooke on her websites www.beyouandfearlesslifecoach.com and www.brookelewis.com and also through Instagram and Twitter @brookelewisla Let us know what you thought about this episode, or any of the others in the comments below, or connect with us via Twitter

  • Bryan Anderson – Voice Over Artist
On this episode of The Malliard Report, Jim welcomes a guest that is a familiar one, but not in the sense of recurring interviews. That warming baritone parlance that greets us each week belongs to none other than Bryan Anderson, and he is here riding shotgun with Jim to discuss working in the voiceover industry, his experiences with MUFON, the paranormal podcast circuit, and his interactions with the unknown.
As with any content producing genre (e.g. podcasts, music, film, writing, etc.) the end result is merely a tiny snapshot of many, many, hours of work, frustration, re-work, and the voiceover industry is no exception. Bryan notes that many people do not realize how much work goes into such a “small” product; one hour of content may actually be the end product of hours’ if not days’ worth of work. But don’t take this as a sympathy plea, but as a reminder to show your support for the content that you love.
While Bryan is best known for his smooth sonance, his connection to the paranormal is just as noteworthy. Having encountered odd situations since a young age, Bryan talks about one his first experiences that involved a playful (or maybe annoying depending on how you look at it) spirit that would regularly ring the doorbell of his childhood home, and even continued to do so after he and his family moved out. Bryan also discusses his interactions that he has had with MUFON and points out that while some have negative things to say about the organization, his experiences have been nothing but positive. (You can’t please everyone am I right?)
Jim and Bryan also discuss how at times the paranormal podcasts genre can become a bit stale at times with guests just making the circuit from one show to another, making the same talking points at each one, and also why we seem to hate the sound of our own voice when we hear ourselves on a recording. The primary reasons as to why is certainly an interesting one, but you’ll have to listen to the episode for that.
If you are interested in listening to some of Bryan’s work (other than what you hear on The Malliard Report) head over to www.bryanandersonvoice.com and check out some of his audio books. • Paranormal Investigating

07192016 Gear talk, conspiracy theories, and investigative locations. While this may sound like a typical episode of The Malliard Report, it does stray a bit from the norm. On this episode, the featured guest is none other than…Jim Malliard. While the duck may be flying solo, there is no shortage of great discussion, and thought-invoking topics.

Paranormal investigations are a difficult egg to crack. There are few fields that have as many relative variables as that of the paranormal. Some people may yield incredible results with one piece gear while others may have no luck at all. Someone may visit a location that is absolutely ripe with activity only to return at later time and find the snacks that they brought along more interesting than the investigation itself. (True story)

As with any sort of “hobby/interest” the gear used can very easily become a sticky topic to discuss, and the paranormal field is no exception. You have those that believe that only the most expensive of cameras and recorders will gather any evidence, some may only use certain pieces and show utter disdain for others. (The Spirit Box is a great example of this) There is the school of thought that old world methods are best while others may completely write the idea off and stick with only the latest and most high tech. The bottom line is this: What works best for YOU as an investigator? Caught some of your best evidence with a point and shoot camera and a digital recorder and that’s what you enjoy using? Then use it! Want to throw some hefty cash down on a full spectrum camera and an Ovilus 5? Go for it! Think the Ouija board is total bunk? Then don’t use one. It is all really that simple. Remember it is what works best and yields the best results for you, the investigator.

Location, location, location. Always important, is it not? In this episode, the topic of various locations does come up. Some famous ones, others lesser known, but the one that brings up some of the strongest opinion is that of cemeteries, and this is for several reasons. There are multiple schools of thought when it comes to cemeteries and the investigation of them. Some believe that there are some cemeteries out there that are very active and you are able to gather some fantastic evidence while others believe you will not find anything at all in them.

Whether you believe in either one of these ideas it is recommended that you do not investigate cemeteries, and there are two main reasons why. One is that in some areas it can be considered trespassing, and this could end up causing unwanted trouble that you don’t want to deal with. Second is safety. Cemeteries can be a very dangerous place at night, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area. Now the fourth wall is going to be broken here, and as the writer will tell a story from my personal repertoire as to why cemeteries are a bad idea, especially at night.

I have a couple of friends that are filmmakers, and at the time I was helping them with a horror short that they were shooting. We scouted an old cemetery in a small town about sixty miles from where we lived and visited it several times in order to plan out how and where we would shoot. As we were setting up a scene the night of the shoot, we hear one of the guys yell out, then see him come staggering up to where the rest of us were with his pant leg soaked in blood. While setting up a camera, he crossed paths with a skunk that had decided to explore the cemetery as well. In a fit of panic (everyone was on edge to begin with: dark, cold night in a creepy little town’s cemetery will do that to anyone) decided to turn and run from the skunk, tripped over a grave marker and fell shin first onto an exposed pipe. The pipe had cut a gash into his leg approximately six inches long and went all the way to the bone. Here we are, sixty miles from civilization, our buddy bleeding out, and gear spread out everywhere. We eventually got him to the ER (but not without an equally painful and slightly humorous side story that occurred during the trip back, but I’ll spare you from that for now. If you really want to hear more, ask Jim, maybe he’ll let me share it) where he received about a dozen stitches and a tetanus shot. So to circle back; stay out of cemeteries at night. They are dangerous. You might not see a hole in the ground, poorly marked headstone, or random wildlife, and we just want all of you to be safe out there.

This episode is a little different from the norm, but still a great listen. Plus there are several other topics that were discussed that were not mentioned above. Make sure to check out all the great new (and revamped) Malliard Report extensions and let us know what your favorite piece of gear is, your favorite place to investigate, or where your dream place to investigate would be either in the comments below or via Twitter @Malliard

  • Dark Waters Paranormal Researcher
Po-boys, beignets, jazz, and one of the oldest haunted histories in the United States; welcome to New Orleans. More than just the land of amazing food, and legendary phantoms, it is where this week’s guest of The Malliard Report calls home.

On this episode Jim welcomes Dark Waters of The Dark Waters Channel. A New Orleans native, Dark Waters states that the paranormal is just a part of life there and with so many different paranormal elements (old history, war, mythical creatures, voodoo, disgraceful human practices, etc.) that it creates the perfect “paranormal gumbo”. After realizing that just about every one of his friends and family members (himself included) had a story to tell, Dark Waters began putting these stories together to eventually culminate into what the Dark Waters Channel has become today.

Dark Waters brings a new format into the world of recounting paranormal experiences. More than just retelling old stories, Dark Waters seeks out, and researches the history of some of the most chilling encounters with the unexplained. Dark Waters then presents these stories in an audio book style format, and with the goal of leaving the listener frightened at the end of every segment, it is very easy to see why his channel continues to grow at an exponential rate. Dark Waters’ attention to detail, and focus on the little details causes the listener to not only visualize the scenario, but allows them to feel as if they are a part of the experience as well, and this certainly ups the creepiness level making for a more addictive listening adventure.

In this episode Jim and Dark Waters discuss the history and future goals of the Channel, the resiliency of New Orleans itself, thoughts on Ouija boards, how to determine the credible stories from those that are complete b.s., and a story about a cryptid two legged creature in a cow pasture that would certainly scare anyone that encountered it.

Head over to Dark Waters’ website www.darkh2o1.com or YouTube channel to listen to some of the stories yourself. The story of the possessed 13 year old girl names Taylor certainly had me on edge, along with the ghostly pachuco being a personal favorite.
