In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview a powerhouse of a woman I admire, Emily Maden, for this juicy conversation. Emily is a former elite athlete turned rogue bodyworker, pelvic integrationist and soon to be doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. She supports women into true sexual vitality through breath, touch and prayer. 

She lives in San Diego with her husband Rob, her son Hawk and a very scruffy old meximutt rescue named Captain.  

In our conversation, we discuss the vastness of female pleasure along with the numbness many of us have experienced through past trauma, and the healing that can come from communing with Cervix. We talk about the psychedelic nature of that connection from maidenhood to mamahood, how deepening in connection with Cervix and healing our tissues by bringing life force back into them can open profound pathways in our lives, not only sexually. We talk the expansiveness of the birth continuum, and yin pleasure in postpartum, beyond "reproductive sex," how this can be medicine for mental health in early motherhood. We explore the potential of erotic oxytocin fueled breastfeeding when it's embraced as such, life force moving through us, and further breaking taboos around being a sexually empowered awakened being and Mother.

The core principle of her work is a devotional decolonial perspective; exploring how colonised system seek to disconnect individuals, the collective and the Earth from eachother. In this episode I interview, Whapio Diane Bartlett. For over 40 years, Whapio has been a pioneer in the world of midwifery and birthkeeping, redefining how we understand and approach birth since 1985. As an Elder Midwife, educator, and mentor, Whapio has devoted her life to raising the consciousness of birth and transforming how families, caregivers, and communities honor this sacred process. She is one of my most cherished mentors, in this conversation we dive into the realms of what Whapio refers to as Quantum Birth, and some of her own journey of entering midwifery and becoming a mother herself. Whapio speaks to the naturally psychedelic qualities of pregnancy, birth and postpartum, the expanded state of being that this time brings, the brainwave shifts, and the consciousness altering journey. In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast I interview Kearsley Tate Schweller. Kearsley (she/her) is a private chef, postpartum practitioner, author, & educator of Kearsley’s Kitchen. For over 10 years she has devoted her study & practice to the intersection of women’s medicine & traditional foods, braiding together a love for food, herbalism, physiology, hormones, & ritual. She describes her way of life as a “slow simmer” a delicate balance between actively engaging what inspires her and savoring the simple joys of life like wandering the woods, baking sourdough, painting watercolor pomegranates, cuddling her cats, & exploring the symbolic realms through dreams, color, & earth-based ritual. Through her classes, meals, & seasonal cookbooks, Kearsley helps others deepen their relationship to nourishment in many forms. In our conversation together, we touch of the reality at hand these past several months in Appalachia through the floods from Hurricane Helene and what Kearsley's role has looked like in her community there and in supporting new families in need of resourcing. We explore what true community looks like when the going gets tough, how we can all nourish each other and each have our unique role to play in making a difference, many hands can make light work. I interview a woman who has inspired me for many years with her online presence and who has become a dear friend of mine through our shared connection with the lands of Costa Rica. This woman is a powerhouse mama, the bread winner of her family, the matriarch, Katya Nova!

In our conversation (literally recorded earlier today) we dive into her journey of building the influential online platform Matriarch Collective which has transformed the lives of literally 10's of 1000's of women and families and we chat about her most recent launch which is, the Wealthy Woman Vault 2.0 (get a ticket while it's hot). We talk about Katya's journey of co-parenting and homesteading with her ex husband who is also her best friend, and raising their 4 beautiful little ones together. Katya believes that 'wealth' is measured in TIME, not DOLLARS. It’s not about how much money you make, it's about how much money you get to keep. And how that money is working for you. Wealth is the freedom to be generous. It’s about being at ease in your nervous system, and knowing that if something unexpected happens, you (and your family) will be ok.

Kate is a licensed therapist based in Tucson, AZ and Salt Lake City, UT. She runs group private practices that specializes in working with LGBTQIA2S+ clients, people in ethically non-monogamous relationships and people seeking psychedelic integration therapy. She is trained by MAPS in MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy and utilizes Ketamine Assisted Therapy in her practice as well as KAP provider trainings. Kate is trained in Perinatal Mental Health from Postpartum Support International and is a certified doula as well. She is passionate about perinatal mental health and is an advocate for innovative psychiatric treatments for PMDD and postpartum depression. These disorders affect many new mothers and can have a profound impact in their family systems and current treatments for these conditions are limited. 

In this episode together we explore her work and how it can support folks to move through traumatic experiences from their lives and transform, as well as how this work has been transformative in her own life, and particular in her transition into motherhood. Kate speaks about her experience with a near death experience, and choosing to be here for her children, and how psychedelic therapy was been a guiding light in integrating this experience. We speak openly about the reality of Postpartum depression which many women face and shine light on the lessons and the resources for support that are available.
