  • 16. Rituals, Rites of Passage, & Raising Earth Connected Kids - Jennifer "Juniper" Montgomery

In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I Interview Jennifer “Juniper” Montgomery.

Can you imagine if the entrance into menstruation was celebrated and honoured? If rites of passage were normalized in our most transitional moments of change in life? We will be diving deep into these realms today.

Jennifer is a homeschooling, homesteading, homebirthing mama raising 4 children (as well as many varieties of plants and animals) in Appalachia. She is a Matrona certified doula and a birthkeeper and childbirth educator. Some of her greatest passions are physiologic birth, the creation of family, forging new ways for neurodivergent minds, natural and holistic living and healing, and breaking those pesky cycles that prevent loving evolution.

In our chat today, we explore some of the ritualistic ways she’s created deeper connection and celebration in her family unit, the importance of community, staying connected and welcoming playfulness and presence with children as they enter teenage-hood, breaking taboos in the birth world, home/unschooling, as well as raising children on the spectrum and how we can better support them to shine in their unique brilliance on this earth. One of my favourites themes in this episode is on menstrual magic, cycle syncing within the family and how to support each other in the home, the sacredness of menarche and the first bleed, how grief comes up for kids during this stage of life and we can support them in navigating it while staying true to themselves, as well as raising children in a way where they are connected to their bodies and to nature. This mama has so much wisdom to share, and I know you will get so much out of it.

  • 15. Sound Bowls, Breakthroughs, & Babies -Taylor Valera

In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview Taylor Valera, “the sound bowl mom,” she’s a mother to two, her two year old son and newborn daughter. Along with being a mama, Taylor is a plant medicine advocate, sound bath practitioner and reiki master, who shared her wisdom on healing through her personal experience and guided thought. I love Taylor’s authentic vulnerability in this conversation, as well as her beautiful platform. In this discussion, Taylor touches on her own pregnancies, the joys and challenges, her spiritual journey with sound, reiki, herbs and plant medicine such as psilocybin and cannabis. We talk about ancestral healing on her mother line, the taboos of medicine work, her own experience of being a women of colour in the psychedelic space, along with so much more. Taylor shares how mushrooms have brought deeper presence into her parenting, and healing to her heart and her history. Taylor shares how her pregnancy unfolded from disconnection after a hurricane in New Orleans in her early pregnancy to deepened connection along the journey. We discuss Taylor’s vision of having a home birth with her second child, and although she ended up transferring for her birth, she had an incredible support system, and profound lessons of surrendering to what is came through, on the other side came a healthy babe and mama. Thank you Taylor for all that you shared with us.

  • 14. Integrating Life's Pivotal Experiences - Atiyeh Baradaran

In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I chat with Atiyeh Baradaran, an Iranian-Canadian psychotherapist. Atiyeh works with a wide range of approaches, from Dr. Gabor Maté’s compassionate inquiry to sacred plant medicine, traditional ceremonies, yoga & meditation, music, dance and somatic healing. She currently lives in Baja California Sur, and has a private online practice  where she offers therapy sessions through zoom to clients from all over the world. She truly believes that the real healing from trauma only begins when we truly feel Held, heard and accepted in exactly where we are. Atiyeh is a survivor of trauma herself. She was born and raised in Iran, as the youngest of 3 siblings, during the time of war and ongoing dictatorship in the country, and amidst severe health issues in her primary family. Losing her father to death at the age of 13, and immigrating to Canada at 15 away from everything and everyone she knew, are among some of the life events that have brought her into her long and ongoing journey of consciously healing. She has dedicated her life to help and guide others doing the same work as well, and is very passionate about it.

In our episode together, we discuss Atiyeh’s journey of studying psychology and coming to somatic practices along with her studies under Dr. Gabor Mate’s compassionate inquiry training which led to her counselling practice, Be Held Counselling. We dive into the realms of psycho somatic healing, how trauma is stored in the body, and the importance of integration work post plant medicine ceremonies and major life experiences, such as birth. Atiyeh shares some insights on early childhood development, the connection between the mother and infant’s nervous system and some regulation tools. We talk about how disease is often the manifestation of suppression or unexpressed emotion, trauma healing, and how we can learn to parent our own inner child. Her brilliance shines in this episode, and carries so much value for anyone on the path to parenthood, in the midst of it, or on the path of parenting themselves again to come into a more whole regulated and emotionally mature version of themselves. Her compassionate heart, grounded energy, and wisdom offers so much.

  • 12. Spirit Baby Bonds & Meditative Medicine -Alexandra Pellatt

In this episode of the Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview one of dear friends Alexandra Pellatt, it’s such a joy to release stories of people that I hold so dear to my heart, and that have moved me deeply in my life. Alexandra is a mama, holistic Doula, fertility support practitioner, and movement educator. We met in our first holistic Doula training together about 4 years ago, and bonded over our love for babies, birth and beyond. In Alexandra’s episode, we talk spirit baby communication & connection, communion with spirit children that do not come through in the physical, lose that choose to leave a pregnancy and not incarnate, and those that return to come into human form. We talk about her conscious conception and deep pregnancy journey with her son Sebastian, and her two previous pregnancies with babies that did not come through. Alex shares her experience of having a very inward meditative labour & birth, how her son’s energy grounded her into having a deep practice with meditation & hypno-birthing practices in pregnancy. We talk about the death and rebirth that comes with stepping into parenthood, how the postpartum time can be nourishing with the support that is needed to allow for this. We talk about breastfeeding and the high of Oxytocin. We talk about miscarriage and the stigma it carries and how we can better show up and support for this initiation and loss that is far too come and often isolating.
This conversation brings a depth and a lightness to these topics that are sacred and I am so grateful you get to tune in.

  • 9. Jungle Mama -Estonia Elizabeth

In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview jungle mama, Estonia Elizabeth. A Kenyan woman who has made home here in Costa Rica over the past 4.5 years. In our conversation today we dive into Estonia’s upbringing between Kenya and Texas, stepping into a role of nurturing from a young age, as well as her journey of moving to the Central America solo with her backpack & hula hoop. She shares with us her experiences with intuitive led pregnancy, how she protected her energy from the outside world’s unsolicited birth advice, and how she allowed her inner knowing to lead the way. The stories of her empowering home free births of her two suns, supported by sisters and her lover, how she traversed the altered states of natural birthing, the highest high of the human experience. Tapping into womb wisdom and her path forward of guiding women on their own journeys of sovereign motherhood.

After these raw & primal births, Estonia continues to wild mother through use of psychedelic medicines, somatic movement therapy, inner child healing work and more! In Costa Rica, she microdoses frequently to aid in her rebalancing & regenerating process during post partum. Through her 6 year relationship with mushrooms, now she's opened Mushroom ceremony spaces for people to dive into the medicine. She highlights that the use of psylocilibin in Postpartum depression is truly a pivotal tool to spark reconnection to self after birth. Staying connected to our joy is how we make it through the more difficult transitions in life, no matter how they look. Even with beautiful births, we can all benefit in many ways from the added psychological & chemical support to balance the wild hormonal experience with birth. She hosts jungle retreats featuring plant medicine & wild nature immersion that guide us back into remembering our most primal self. Additionally, she offers womb healing sessions & motherhood support sessions.

  • 8. Honey for my Heart -Luna Itzell

In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I have the pleasure of speaking to a woman that has really been a major catalyst on my own healing journey, Luna Itzell. An ayahuascara of 20 years, a truly sensational vocal talent accompanied by her husband Helder in all their musical endeavours, and a mother of a 19 year old daughter. Luna has one of the brightest hearts I’ve come to know in this life, her service in ceremony is remarkable, the weaving of her song medicine with the sacred medicine of the Amazon Ayahuasca, the divine healing space that she creates for us all to remember who we truly are. Luna tells us about her journey of coming to plant medicine in her early 30s to heal from her own fertility journey and mental, physical, emotional disturbances. How that journey led her to motherhood and medicine work as a life path. She shares pieces here and there on several sacred medicines of the earth and their spirits, living a ceremonial life in reverence of creator, and how this has served her in her 19 years of mothering. What she shares here is truly a blessing to anyone entering parenthood or needing a reminder amongst the challenging times. She tells us about her father’s influence in entering medicine ceremony for the first time, some of his own journey as a young man in Oaxaca, Mexico, as well as her thoughts on mother’s sitting in ceremony throughout their pregnancies. This is one you don’t want to miss you, Gracias Luna por todo. For walking me back home in some of the most transformational vulnerable moments in my adult life, and for reminding me that “everything is okay.” After all we are all guided here, thank you for sharing your soul’s wisdom.
