  • Episode 382 - Making Magic Mainstream
Chewie, Mike, Brian, and Dirk have been talking about Magic: The Gathering on the internet for almost 10 years (at the time of this writing). Since there are so many shows about strategy and tournaments, these dorks focus on all the fun you can have with the game outside of that, from flavor to philosophy to game design to history to whatever else we can come up with. We're funny, we're serious about what we do, and we love it!

  • Three Questions: GP Charlotte 2015 Part 4

The real purpose of this show, like most of the stuff I do, is to entertain you – the listener. Rather than asking the same old questions that everyone else does, I’m looking to give you a slightly more off-the-wall look into these Magic players and judges and what-have-you by catching them off guard and putting them on the spot. This episode is the last of four from Grand Prix Charlotte 2015!

Appearing on this episode are The Lady Cluze (aka Dr. Mrs. Dr. Science), a Level 1 judge and general delight, and Jared Sylva, L4 judge, TO of GP Charlotte, and SCG OP guy! He's also a sexy robot. I also got to talk to some fellow podcasters on this episode! I hit up Mike, Morgan, and Jordan from the At Your End Step podcast as well as Jon Celso of Tap N Sac. The rest of the episode is all about the players. The episode kicks off with the inimitable Adrian Sullivan and just keeps on going! I talked to Justin Cohen, Tom Martell, Josh Utter-Leyton, Ari Lax, Brian Braun-Duin (BBD), Paul Rietzl, and Chris Pikula! Holy crap that's a lot of MTG talent all on one show!

Hope you enjoy! Let me know what your answers would be!

  • Episode 381 - Here There (Can't) Be Dragons

This week the dorks are going back to everyone's favorite giant scaly fire-breathing mythical creatures - Dragons! We're heading over to Dirk's Creature Corner so he can tell us all the reasons that Dragons can't actually exist. Whether it's because they can fly even though they shouldn't be able to, because they don't make sense compared to the rest of the fossil record, or because they, you know, BREATHE FIRE, they just don't make sense in the real world. Don't worry though, we managed to have several entertaining and interesting tangents over the course of this conversation!

After that we decided to take it easy and just have some extended final thoughts, which we all did. Mike's building Goblins, Brian's building Jeskai Burn, Dirk's got a light at the end of the tunnel, and Chewie has YouTube updates!

Let us know what you think of Dragons in the real world, and if you have any other suggestions for future Creature Corners then tell us!

  • Episode 380 - Magic Origins 2: The Originating

This episode begins with a brief recap of the Magic Origins Prerelease that Mike and Chewie went to. Then we head over to the San Diego Comic-Con Magic panel, which was really just about story and flavor. Fun stuff.

After that we go into Brian's topic idea, and boy is it a good one. Since Magic Origins seems to be so universally lauded, we figure it won't be too long until WotC decides to do Magic Origins 2. So we're checking out the remaining planeswalkers and trying to figure out whose origin should be spotlighted! Along the way we'll design a few of the Legendary Creature halves of these new transforming Walkers, talk about some of the origin stories we may or may not already know, and ramble on about whatever else comes to mind. Let us know who you guys would want to see!

  • Episode 379 - Firstest Strike

The dorks are what the French call "sans Brian" this episode, but luckily Bill is able to join us! Yay Bill! We begin with a bit of news, like the Arena of the Planeswalkers board game and the sudden appearance and new information about Magic Duels. Get that Hearthstone money!

After that it's just a mess of Magic Origins previews! The full set is out, and we're just looking around at all the cool stuff. You know what? There's a LOT of cool stuff in this freakin' set! I mean a LOT. It's unreal. Even the boring commons and uncommons are either really good or really fun. I can't wait for the Prerelease!

This episode is the first of four, and covers the first handful of people to answer my questions.

Appearing on this episode are Brian and Mike, two of my cohosts from The Mana Pool and Cluze and Squee, my two cohosts from Monday Night Magic. Also, a more different Mike from the Pitt Imps Podcast, CJ Shrader from JudgeCast, and our buddy and occasional TMP guest JT answer my questions too. Of course we can't leave out the players! I talked to frequent SCG Open Top 8 competitor Rudy Briksza, Hall-of-Famers LSV and Patrick Chapin, and two-time Worlds winner Shahar Shenhar! This episode wraps up with "legendary streamer" (listen to the episode to see why that's in quotes) NumotTheNummy, also known as Kenji Egashira! He's got such a dreamy voice...

Hope you enjoy! Let me know what your answers would be! And keep an eye out for the last batch of Three Questions from Grand Prix Charlotte coming VERY soon!
