Drayton Farley is a singer and songwriter from Alabama whose most recent record Twenty On High continues to be a favorite of Marinators everywhere. Twenty on High was produced by Marinade guest Sadler Vaden who of course plays guitar in Jason Isbell's 400 Unit. The Alabama native cut his teeth playing open mics while working on the railroad and went on to become one of the favorite songwriters of your favorite songwriters. We caught up with Drayton at Laurel Cove Festival just outside of Pineville, KY, for a conversation about his connection to fans, the production touch of Sadler Vaden, the importance of a familial support system, and so much more.

As part of our Grounded Summer tour I am in Pineville, KY, covering Laurel Cove Festival.
If you are new to The Marinade, maybe you went to Laurel Cove, this came across your social media feed and you wanted to relive the weekend, welcome. I'll give you a little context for the show. The Marinade is a free-flowing conversation about the creative process with creative people. Each episode we welcome musicians, actors, comedians, authors, visual artists, filmmakers- anyone who creates art to talk about how and why we make stuff.
The bulk of our work looks like me, Jason Earle, sitting down with an artist and talking about process. We are also fortunate to cover live creative events like this one. My goal is to bring you along for the ride.

For the next few weeks Jason Earle of The Marinade will be on the road covering Laurel Cove Festival in Pineville, Kentucky, and for the second year in a row Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee. In addition to bringing you interviews and reports from the festivals, I am using this time as a personal reset. I am originally from Kentucky as is my entire family, and I have recently been going through some major changes in my life. So it made sense for me to spend some time in my place of origin this summer.
For this bonus series of The Marinade you will get a little personal reflection, some reporting from the festivals, stories along the way, and a whole lot of fun. Everyone, prepare to get grounded with The Marinade this summer!
Oliver Wood is the lead singer and one of the founding members of Grammy nominated trio The Wood Brothers which he co-founded with his brother Chris and Jano Rix in 2006. His latest solo record Fat Cat Silhouette comes out on June 14, 2024.
For this collection of songs he enlisted Rix on production duty and percussion along with great friend of The Marinade Seth Walker, the incomparable Katie Pruitt, and several other esteemed collaborators. Y'all, I have been a fan of Oliver's music since damn near the inception of The Wood Brothers and I am thrilled to bring y'all this conversation. This is the third time I have had the pleasure of chatting with Oliver on record. He is always thoughtful and I always learn something.

Kyle Keller is a singer and songwriter who currently makes his home in Gainesville, FL (Go Gators!) Kyle's sophomore record The Great American Highway was released in the summer of 2023 and it's a delight that gives and gives. So is the man himself as you will hear in this episode. I have known Kyle for several years.
He and my dear friend Jordan Foley are very close and the three of us sat having tea and talking about life here in my beloved Milk District in Orlando then walked over to the porch of Barley and Vine Biergarten to record. It was a gorgeous April day that was a long time coming.
