The Marvelists

This week on The Marvelists, Peter and Eddie conclude their stay at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters with a discussion of 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. Often criticized for its loose adaptation of the Dark Phoenix Saga (to the point it’s getting retold in 2019’s X-Men Dark Phoenix film), the guys give their thoughts on the much criticized film.

X-Men: The Last Stand is directed by Brett Ratner and stars Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Anna Paquin, Kelsey Grammer, Shawn Ashmore, Aaron Stanford, Vinnie Jones, and Ellen Page.

This week on The Marvelists, Peter and Eddie continue another semester at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters as they talk about 2003’s X2. Considered to be one of the greatest comic book sequels as well as comic book movies in general, the film borrows heavily from the iconic Claremont story “God Loves, Man Kills.” Does it still hold up over 15 years later? Peter and Eddie will be the judge of that.

X2 is directed by Bryan Singer and stars Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Brian Cox, Alan Cumming, Bruce Davison, and Anna Paquin.

Next episode: X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

On top of all of that, we are joined with Arrow show runner and current X-Men Gold writer, Marc Guggenheim. Topics include his work on the X-titles, Spider-Man, as well what he thinks the future of Blade should be.

This week on The Marvelists, we talk about 2004's "The Punisher." In this retelling of Frank's origin story, we are treated with a bigger budget than the 1989 film and John Travolta for some reason. Oh, and there's a Punisher logo made out of fire at the end because early 2000s I guess.

The Punisher stars Thomas Jane, John Travolta, Will Patton, Roy Scheider, Laura Harring, Ben Foster, and Rebecca Romijn.

This week on The Marvelists, Peter and Eddie go green with rage. Well, not really rage. Maybe extreme giddiness (but I digress). The boys are joined alongside with “Puny” Bruce Banner before and after the gamma bomb went off. Yes, we have a Hulk as we are joined with both Lou Ferrigno and Mark Ruffalo. We talk with both about all things Hulk and their involvement with Marvel on both the little screen and big screen. Topics discussed include who Mark would like to tangle with in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Lou tells us about the time the Hulk met… Mister Rogers?!

Major, major thank you to Lou Ferrigno and Mark Ruffalo for taking their time to speak with us!

Today on The Marvelists, Peter and Eddie talk about what would have been the second trilogy of films from Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Verse.” They discuss the possibility of villains such as The Vulture, Mysterio, Black Cat and others joining the fray in what became the biggest “What If” in comic book movie history. On top of that, they are joined with co-creator of Carnage, Mark Bagley as he recounts his career and the overall impact of the webhead on pop culture.
