The Melt Podcast

I had the honor of speaking with Italian composer, multi-instrumentalist, and performer Lili Refrain about her sublime music and what brought her to create it. I encourage you to dig in and explore what she has to offer.

Hunter and I had the honor of chatting with MindBody Health Consultant, author, and conqueror of what some may call demons, Vic Shayne. He discusses his lifelong firsthand experiences with astral projection, his latest book, "Observations of a Reluctant Mystic," and his seemingly innate ability to overcome evil spirits. Fascinating stuff, to be sure!

Hunter and I had the opportunity to chat with author and activist Derrick Jensen about all sorts of things. I initially reached out to him to talk about his take on the trans issue and queer theory, but that only begins to make its way in during the last half hour or so.  But we cover a lot of ground getting there.

I was fortunate enough to have a brief chat with Edward Ka-Spel (lead singer of The Legendary Pink Dots, prolific solo artist, member of The Tear Garden, and one-time collaborator with Amanda Palmer) about his music and his connection to it. I first interviewed him, Phil, and Neils on July 23, 1991, for a 'zine that I was putting out at the time called Purge. Some 35 years later, here we are.

The MELt returns after almost 10 months (at least for the summer)!! We gracefully saunter back into the MELTiverse with an enlightening conversation with returning guest Elana Freeland. She returns to walk us through a thorough PowerPoint presentation that covers most of her work. So, needless to say, this would be a better episode to watch.

Welcome to another podcast from The MELTiverse called Musica Universalis! It is a podcast that was created to explore numinous music. Mysterious music. Transcendent music. Otherworldly music. Relax and enjoy.

Sofie Birch is a sound performer who works with vibrational tools to transform, heal, and enchant our perception of Life.

Every month, she hosts the radio show Ambient Abracadabra on NTS—a sound collage featuring listeners’ secret adventurous sound creations alongside excerpts from podcasts on natural medicine, spiritual work, and mysteries.

Sofie has more than ten years of experience producing music for theatre, film, and art installations, and has received beautiful recognition for her work through awards, prizes, and reviews.

Sofie travels the world with her creations, both as a solo performer and together with her otherworldly friend, Antonina Nowacka. She also runs a sound studio and big garden with her partner, Anders Christophersen, on a small island far away from Copenhagen.

At the core of Sofie Birch’s practice is an ongoing inquiry into spirituality, perception, and interconnectedness. Her work unfolds where artistic practice, inner inquiry, and the intelligence of nature meet.

Nature is both source and collaborator in her process.

Her second home, on the island of Fejø, serves as a place for deep work and reconnection, while her interest in flower essences and natural medicine evolves alongside a meditation practice she carries with her everywhere.

With a background in sound design and electronic music, her practice extends beyond sound alone. She works with sound as a sensorial and energetic material, while also engaging with visual and spatial elements such as costumes, stage design, and varied listening environments — from acoustic settings to multichannel systems.

Her work offers spaces for presence, deep listening, and subtle transformation, supporting a conscious and curious collaboration with the life force energy.
