People are excited when our hospital ship arrives. It carries a precious cargo of dedicated volunteers and free surgical care.

Jason McElwain was diagnosed with autism at age 2. He was considered high functioning, and his friends called him J-Mac.

People hear about Mercy Ships in many different ways. And they choose to volunteer for many different reasons.

Mercy Ships hires local people to work onboard our hospital ships in various roles. These day-crew help bridge the cultural gap between us and the people we serve.

Some infants are born terminally ill. Often the parents are so overwhelmed they just walk away.

Mercy Ships serves the poorest countries in Africa. Lack of healthcare and lack of good nutrition make physical problems much worse. 

Keeping our volunteer crew safe is a huge priority. That’s why we have a highly trained security team onboard our hospital ship.
