Ibrahim was 24 years old when his legs were badly burned in a fire.  He was unable to walk or even stand. And the tragedy affected others, too. The loss of his income caused his family to suffer.  His older brother had to carry him everywhere. And one day he carried him up the gangway of our hospital ship for a free surgery.

Volunteer crew come from all over the world to serve with Mercy Ships. It’s a remarkable, God-orchestrated flow of compassion.  Volunteer dentist David Ugai describes it. 

Hands of the Carpenter is a faith-based nonprofit in Lakewood, Colorado. They provide auto repairs for single moms and widows in the Denver area. They found a special way to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Helping those who can’t help themselves is very rewarding! That’s why Mercy Ships volunteer crew often return to serve again and again … like volunteer dentist David Ugai.

A little African baby was born with a cleft lip and palate. It was the talk of the village. People said the deformity was caused by witchcraft and that he was a danger to those around him.

Ricky Smith founded a nonprofit called R.A.K.E. — Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere. He tours the country doing good things for others.

A volunteer onboard our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy, was afraid of needles. She viewed any blood work as a necessity and certainly not a choice. Then the lab team discovered that she had a rare blood type and asked her if she’d be willing to donate blood if needed. 

In countries with little or no healthcare, disease and disabilities rob people of hope.  A crew member recently gave an uplifting update on a patient.

Ricky Smith was divorced, homeless, and had $20 left to his name.  He decided to use the money to buy pizza for the homeless, handing out slices to complete strangers.

The crew onboard our hospital ship is a marvelous international community united by one goal: following Jesus and serving others.
