Did you know plastic bags take decades to decompose in landfills? Several ladies from a church in Fort Smith, Arkansas, found a way to turn the bags into blessings.

Bob McLeod runs a ministry to men near Jacksonville, Alabama.  One day the phone rang, and a voice said, “Hello, Bob, this is Charlotte. Do you have a minute?”

Mercy Ships can offer free surgeries and capacity-building to poor countries because we are blessed with so many wonderful volunteers.  We’re also blessed with wonderful supporters. 

Mercy Ships volunteer Kevin was visiting a local prison in Liberia.  He was building relationships with inmates searching for spiritual truth. But one day, Kevin needed saving.

The patient was wearing a special leg brace.  Tracey, the physical therapist, needed to adjust it, but the mechanism was jammed—nothing could budge it. 

Marie had a large life-threatening tumor that kept her from being able to eat or even breathe properly.   Then she received a free surgery onboard our hospital ship in West Africa to remove it. 

Beth Moore settled into the chair in the airport.  She had just opened her Bible when she saw him—a frail, elderly, skin-and-bones man in a wheelchair, sitting alone.  His stringy gray hair reached halfway down his back.

Mercy Ships provides an excellent environment for families.  We have an accredited academy for the children of crew onboard the ship, and we certainly offer a chance to learn about Africa! 

 The country of Liberia had just come out of civil war.  Mercy Ships volunteer Patti said, “A whole generation had never been to school. They needed vocational help.” So, Patti got involved by teaching courses to help community members get back on their feet.
