Kelly Smith is a commandant of a Marine Corps League and a constable in Wood County, Texas.  A friend found a box in an abandoned storage unit.  It contained a uniform, a folded flag, medals and a commendation for meritorious service to Sergeant Robert Cook.

Lori Volkman and her children celebrated Veteran’s Day by creating “The White Table,” to honor those who aren’t here to celebrate.

Rosie Timms volunteers onboard our hospital ship in the Admissions Tent.  She finds creative ways to interact with patients.  Listen:

A rebel soldier raised his rifle.  Kumba, the woman in front of him, pleaded for mercy.  She explained she was trying to find food for the 38 orphan children sheltered in her house.

Sonia served in the U.S. Army.  She witnessed people desperately running through minefields in Afghanistan to get to food-supply trucks.  Then when she returned home, she discovered the problem at home: thousands of Iowans don’t have enough food.  

Lindsay McCurley has served as a nurse onboard our hospital ship.  But she had some fear to overcome when learning to be a nurse.  Listen:

Patti and her husband visited a church in Liberia.  They met a woman named Marie, who had a very large goiter.  She heard that Patti volunteered with Mercy Ships and asked her if she could be helped.  

Communicating with patients onboard our hospital ships can be challenging.  Listen to one crewmember’s solution:

Ellen met a missionary couple at a restaurant in the U.S.  They were headed to a Muslim land to work with the disabled.  Ellen committed to pray for their ministry and even visit them on the field.

Captain Jon Fadely has served as captain at various times on all four of our hospital ships.  He certainly understands ships!
