People in the countries where we serve speak various dialects and languages.  So, we employ local translators.  But Deborah Adesanya, a volunteer pediatric nurse from Australia, had a definite advantage.

Glenn and Lorrain Bueckert spent July 2016 volunteering at a refugee center in Greece.  Over 2,000 people lived in the center built for 700.  They came from 25 countries.  

A disappointed mother stared aimlessly into the distance.  Her tears had run dry.  Her son’s surgery had been postponed because he had a fever.

The Tornados football team didn’t expect to win.  They already felt like losers because they lived in the Juvenile Correctional Institution in Gainesville, Texas.  The coach of the opposing Grapevine Faith Christian School explained what happened.

A volunteer nurse onboard our hospital ship came up with her definition of success. 

Thomas Barnado was born in Ireland in 1845.  He wanted to be a medical missionary in China. The 21-year-old set our for London to train as a doctor, and   he discovered a mission field in London’s East End.

Fadimatou had looked different from her friends for 13 years.  Her cleft lip had taken its toll on her confidence and self-esteem.  

Many children in Africa suffer burn injuries without available medical care.  Chelsea Darlow is a volunteer Mercy Ships physiotherapist.  She describes her work with one patient.

Jay Payleitner shared this heartwarming Father’s Day memory.  When he was a Boy Scout, his troop made a two-day, 40-mile canoe trip down a river. 

Valerie suffered with a facial tumor larger than her own head for 25 of her 33 years of life.  But she probably wouldn’t use the term “suffered.”  She didn’t let the tumor affect her life with her nine children.
