Sandy Hewitt is a volunteer pharmacist onboard our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy.  It’s really a floating community of mercy-givers.  Listen as Sandy explains what she likes about it.

She was sure she had a toothache.  Thirteen-year-old Isabella couldn’t think of any other reason for her cheek to swell so quickly.  It distorted her face.  She says, “People were saying, ‘Don’t come near, I don’t want your disease!’”

As many as 30 service personnel and veterans are laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery on any given weekday.   Each funeral service includes an honor guard, a rifle volley, taps, a folded American flag … and one more thing … comforting words from an Arlington Lady.

Juliette lives in a remote part of Madagascar.  For five years, she suffered with a growing tumor in her mouth. A friend of hers met some Mercy Ships nurses who were on a fact-finding trip.

Rebekka boarded an early morning flight from Michigan to surprise her military husband in Alabama.  She was worried her four-month-old daughter would disturb other passengers.

Scott Wagers used to run a homeless shelter in downtown San Jose.  The police crackdown in 2014 scattered the homeless community.  So Wagers decided he would have to go to them – and that’s when an RV called the Mercy Mobile was born.

Tam Lowe served as a volunteer nurse onboard our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy.  She saw remarkable transformations in her patients’ lives.
