This week, our special Halloween episode examines that which disturbs us the most... and what could be more terrifying, and yet strangely awesome, than zombies!

This week on The Gralien Report, Halloween is almost here… and that means it’s time to delve into the world of our very deepest, darkest fears and examine what disturbs us the most… and what could be more terrifying, and yet strangely awesome, than zombies! 

And hence, we begin by looking at news of aliens, the Catholic church’s views on science and universal formation, ancient lost civilizations, and much more… and then, turning our attention to heinous acts in the media that draw comparisons with “zombies”, we note how strangely (or not-so-strangely) these reports often involve the very kinds of things that were the root behind actual zombie legends in Haitian culture: drugs.

Sociology and psychology also come into play… particularly when we examine the themes prevalent in zombie films spanning the last eighty years or so. Then we move on to a discussion of zombie-themed stories in the media, and finally, a real-life tale from 1961 which purportedly told a much earlier story of an entire village of the walking dead. Could zombies actually exist, or is this indeed merely legend… like we’ve always assumed, right guys? Guys? Hey guys… uh… oh no…. they’re coming!

This week on The Gralien Report, Micah and Chris begin with a healthy debate about skepticism, and the latest allegation that Micah himself has become “the believer’s skeptic.” We look at a few ways that skeptical attitudes about the famous disappearance of Frederick Valentich, who disappeared on this day 38 years ago, are actually often speculative themselves, and then discuss the documentary Mirage Men, and its implications regarding misinformation, the intelligence community, and the UFO subject, along with many of its key players.

Then in hour two, being the 38th anniversary of Frederick Valentich’s disappearance, we take time to examine the case with a special surprise guest, Andrew Arnold, who has investigated the case for a number of years, along with other notable Australian UFO investigations. New evidence suggests a “timeline” for the disappearance, along with answers to questions like why Valentich had made plans to fly to King Island, but never alert the airport there of incoming aircraft, and the famous “crayfish” delivery. Are there still new leads that could be garnered about this case so many years after the fact?

This week on The Gralien Report Podcast, we continue our foray into the more macabre aspects of the unexplained in advance of the Halloween season, as we spend the first hour discussing a home that was invaded by poisonous spiders in Saint Louis (talk about a nightmare). Then we shift gears and focus on claims of real-life demonic possession… how much of the myth surrounding this phenomenon is actually based on any sort of fact?
