Disclaimer:  Tony and LaBeth are NOT personality assessment experts. We use our professional and personal experiences in the fields of Bible/Theology and Psychology/Professional Counseling to discuss this very interesting topic. Parts of this podcast are purely speculation and not spoken of directly in the Bible. KJV Bible was used in all references. Information concerning his life can be found in 1 Sam 8-31Passages referenced: 1-2 Samuel, Psalms, 1 Kings, and 1&2 ChroniclesDavid’s name appears in 968 verses in the Bible and he was in the lineage of Christ. He lived in Israel, was the last son of Jesse out of 8 sons, and he reigned as the 2nd King of Israel from 1011-970 BC. Prior to reigning as king, he was a shepherd. He killed a lion and a bear before killing Goliath, leader of the Philistine army and a great threat to Israel. He was a young man at this point. He was very poetically and musically inclined. He had to run for his life from Saul and from his son Absalom. He is often mentioned to behave “wisely among all the people.” He had 8 wives, 18 children, and sexual sin was his weakness above all else. He was warm, empathetic, responsive, responsible, highly attuned to the emotions, needs, and motivations of others. He was loyal, inspiring, conscientious and drew on his creative outlets to enjoy the world despite his many trials. David was a healthy person who did not fall prey to being victimized. He was a natural leader that everyone loved and reigned in Israel in stark contrast to Saul.  Listen as Tony and I start out with opposing personality traits, but finally settle on one overarching personality type for David. email us- mailto:[email protected] If you would like to support this effort visit us at https://beamindfulsoul.com/memberships/ Check out https://beamindfulsoul.com/blog/ for blog and vlog content or to find ways to connect with us. We use our professional and personal experiences in the fields of Bible/Theology and Psychology/Professional Counseling to discuss this very interesting topic. Parts of this podcast are purely speculation and not spoken of directly in the Bible. This is a fun way to move past 2 dimensional bible characters and delve deep in to them as people. With all personality typing conversations, there is room for conjecture. KJV Bible was used in all references. Information concerning his life can be found in 1 Sam 8-31Before he was king- 1 Samuel 8-10Reign as king 1 Sam 11-31Saul came from a small family in the tribe of Benjamin. He lived in Israel and tended his father’s fields. Perhaps his humble beginnings may surprise you since he became such an megalomaniac. He became the first king of Israel. During his reign, he deteriorated in to jealousy and fits of anger and destruction. He was adept at self perservation at all costs. He hunted David to kill him but never succeeded, not without a lack of trying. He viewed people as objects to own (gave his son as a prisoner of war and his daughters were married to David in an effort to manipulate and destroy him). He increasingly developed a severe god-complex, he was very disobedient to God’s commands, he was ruthless, delusional, narcissistic, lacked empathy, resentful, and eventually disobeyed rules even he made. 5 times it mentions he was afraid, and he reacted irrationally. He was judgmental, obsessive, unreasonable, irrational, preoccupied with power, and used flattery often to get his way. He was the most unhealthy version of his personality type. Let’s not be like Saul. You can read all about this and more in 1 Samuel 8-31.  Listen to the podcast for our typing of Saul and reasoning behind our decisions. If Saul were interested in developing a healthier version of himself, thus reaching a more heroic status in life, he would’ve followed Proverbs 4:20-27 and let that be his guide.A Healthy Saul would realize that he needed to do the following:Develop empathy for othersPractice restraint when dealing with fear, anger, lustMake friends that could support him, instead of soldiers and servants to protect him and serve himListen before responding-He would’ve been obedient to God if he took the time to listen. He would’ve learned that David was not really a threat and that he had dedicated children and friends to support him. Ultimately this would’ve saved him the jealous and spiteful campaigns against David. Relax-take a break Saul, it’s not the end of the world. You ended up dying by your own hand because you just couldn’t bear to not have your way.
