He was the first king that took away altars, broke down images, cut down groves, and commanded that Judah needed to seek the Lord. He dethroned his mother/grandmother who was an idol worshipper. In his old age, he became diseased in his feet and did not seek the Lord. The kingdom had peace for many years with Asa as the king. Asa was principled, humble toward God (until the last few years of his life). He took his job seriously and was not afraid to stand up for the truth. He became the first King of Judah, the southern kingdom, and played a pivotal role in this historical divide. He started his reign when he was 41 and reigned for 17 years. He bragged about being more oppressive than his father. He was strong willed, efficient, strategic and charismatic. He was also blunt/dominant, intolerant, arrogant, and likely resentful and angry. He may be most known for espousing that his pinky finger “shall be thicker” than his “father’s loins” (2 Chr 10:10). Information concerning his life can be found in 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Chronicles Passages referenced: 2 Kings 2; Ecclesiastes Solomon lived in Israel, was the second son between David and Bathsheeba and he reigned after David as the 3rd and final king of  United Israel from 970-931 BC. Solomon likely came to the throne when he was a young man (maybe around 20). He had 700 wives and 300 concubines. He wrote the books of Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and Proverbs. He’s best known for asking for wisdom from God and for having the temple built. It is said he reigned during  “the golden age of Israel.” Solomon was guilty of extreme idolatry, marrying foreign women from many nations to keep power and peace, like his dad, women led him astray but unlike his father he did not repent. He was diplomatic, knowledgeable, insightful, wise, strategic, logical, and he enjoyed solving complex problems.
