We're living through a history book weather day right now. A stalled low pressure system is driving a deformation band that's absolutely cranking out snow. This storm officially ranks among the top-25 historic March snowstorms on record for Minnesota.

Step outside and you'll feel that deceptive calm. We picked up a light dusting overnight, but the real story is the historic blizzard bearing down on us. This is a dangerous, potentially record-setting March storm.

As the sun sets. Folks, we've got a full-blown blizzard on our hands, a Blizzard Warning is in effect statewide through Monday morning. Travel will become impossible tonight into Sunday, please stay off the roads.

Here's the timeline for the Twin Cities, heavy snow intensifies right around 9 P.M. Tonight. Expect 2 to 3 inches of snow per hour overnight, by Sunday morning, you'll see 10 to 16 inches on the ground. Winds howl from the northeast at 30 miles an hour, with gusts to 45. That creates blizzard conditions with whiteouts. Temperatures hold near 28 degrees tonight, but crash to 6 degrees Sunday night. Wind chills hit minus 12.

Push up north and the story shifts to deep powder, while northern Minnesota sees heavy snow peak around 7 A.M. Sunday. You'll get 8 to 12 inches of new snow, winds gust to 40 miles an hour. It feels like 8 degrees out there right now, expect lows near zero Sunday night.

Down in Southern Minnesota, the storm starts as a wintry mix, while sleet and freezing rain arrive before 2 A.M. This transitions to heavy snow by daybreak, accumulations of 5 to 9 inches are expected. Winds shift to the northwest Sunday, gusting to 50 miles an hour, while that creates dangerous blowing snow. Temperatures crash to 7 degrees Sunday night.

Monday brings bitter cold. Highs reach only 17 degrees in the Twin Cities, with lows near minus 5. Tuesday warms slightly to 25 degrees, with a chance of light snow, a quick clipper arrives Tuesday night. Wednesday looks promising with a high near 41 degrees, with we climb back to 48 degrees by Friday.
