Good morning. Minnesota. I'm Aaron Jolly.

Step outside right now and you'll feel 36 degrees under gray skies, but winter's about to remind you who's boss. A cold front is barreling through. And it's bringing a messy transition tonight. Rain kicks off this evening around 5 P.M, in the metro, then flips to snow overnight. The heaviest snow hits around 2 A.M. — you'll wake up Wednesday to about an inch on the ground.

Up north, you're already dealing with it. The Brainerd Lakes saw a quick dusting this morning — 2 inches in spots. Another round arrives this afternoon with snow likely through tonight. Temperatures drop to 24 degrees with northeast winds gusting to 25 miles an hour. That's the kind of wind that finds every crack in your jacket.

Down south, you stay milder longer. High today near 49 degrees — warmest spot in the state. Rain arrives late tonight, changing to snow by 3 A.M, lows drop to 31 degrees.

Here's your heads-up for the week ahead, while wednesday clears out after morning snow with highs in the low 40s. Thursday stays quiet, mid-40s statewide. But Thursday night, another system rolls in — rain before midnight, then snow. Could see another half inch.

The real story is the weekend, a Colorado low tracks toward the Great Lakes Saturday into Sunday. This could be significant. Snow likely Saturday night with 3 to 5 inches possible, especially in the metro. Sunday stays snowy — another 3 to 5 inches with gusty north winds to 30 miles an hour. Highs only reach 30 degrees.

Behind that system. Arctic air crashes in. Monday drops to 24 degrees — well below normal for mid-March.
