Gut Health Is Mental Health
Sign me up to the team that stresses how the distinction between mind and body that most of us have learned is deeply flawed. If we want to have a better emotional life, we have to take care of our bodies as well as our minds.
Most of us have a passing notion of connections between mind and body. We may be aware that exercise can work to alleviate depression. We may also know that the flu and other illnesses can trigger depression as well
But, one of the more interesting connections between the body and mental health to come along over the last 5 or 10 years has been the link between our gut microbiome and mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. I'm not a medical doctor or nutritionist but the advances arising in this space are too important to ignore for those interested in mental health and addictions.
