Naila Amin is 31 years old. She is a US-based child marriage survivor whose campaign led to the State of New York passing the law against Child Marriage in 2018. The law called The Naila law is a tribute to the resolve of this Pakistani-origin woman, who was betrothed to her first cousin when she was merely 8 years of age. A minor.

During this episode, Naila will be sharing her story, her experience of a forced marriage, the abuse she endured and her eventual escape from the marriage.

This post is a satire on the farcical attitude that is prevalent towards gender oppression. 

“ Indian teenager wearing shorts in Assam was forced to cover her legs with a curtain at her exam centre “, the news read.

The focus was what was she wearing. The exam or the distance she had travelled to appear for the exam and her hard-work was negated in a jiffy. 

It was her clothing that got the authorities in a dilemma.

No one cared about her humiliation or her mental state as they gave her the curtain to cover up. 

This is not the first and definitely not the last of such incidents. Many go unreported. 

Clothing restrictions, especially for women and girls, are routinely reported from across India. Western outfits is considered a moral degradation of the youth.


In a heinous crime in July, 2021. A 17-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death by members of her extended family in Uttar Pradesh. The tipping point was that they didn't approve of her wearing jeans.

She started with an Instagram page initially called Kahaniyaan. Later it was refurbished into Blank Slate, with the objective of creating a community, an umbrella, an organisation where people can just reach out to an expert and start to learn to unlearn, by providing the tools and details on how to do it.

My heart bleeds to see young children burdened with the pressure to be liked and loved by their teachers in school. 

At home too the parents act like the child is solely responsible for keeping the parent happy. 

Children from such high expectations at home, suffer anxiety, just to ensure that the parents remain pleased forever. 

On teachers day I hope parents and teachers learn and acknowledge that a successful relationship requires accountability on both sides. It’s not a one way traffic. 

Wishing the very best to the children who paint flowers for  deserving teachers. 

Also hoping that they learn to decipher that some teachers don’t deserve their innocent adulation. 

Empower children to choose their teachers wisely.

Ma Anand Sheela is an Indian-born Swiss who was the spokeswoman of the Rajneesh movement (aka Osho movement).

As the secretary of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh from 1981 through 1985, she managed the Rajneeshpuramashram in Wasco County, Oregon, United States. In 1986, she pleaded guilty to attempted murder and assault for her role in the 1984 Rajneeshee bioterror attack. She was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison and paroled after 39 months.

Her story has been detailed in the immensely successful Netflix documentary series Wild Wild Country & Searching for Sheela.

Sheela now lives in Switzerland, where she runs two care homes for seniors and people with degenerative illnesses.
