Entertainment has long been a part of the appeal of Morecambe. The area once boasted an array of theatres, cinemas and entertainment venues to rival other resorts. Jenny Reeves is Morecambe’s dance artist in residence and uses performance to tell the Bay’s history to a brand new audience:

Sunderland Point: steeped in history, home to a small community, and one of the most isolated places in the north west.

In later editions we’ll be hearing more about it but what’s it like to grow up there? Mia Wilson knows all about life on the Point. She spent her early years there before moving away to study at university and embark on a career which was to take her thousands of miles away from home on the banks of the River Lune.

In this episode she recalls her early life on the Point and explains what drew her back to the Bay and the important role she now plays.

When the tide is in and if the weather is good (or sometimes even if it isn’t) there’s a good chance you’ll see people taking a dip in the sea near the Clock Tower in the middle of Morecambe.

Over the past few years a growing number have taken to sea swimming, praising the health and social benefits a swim in the Bay brings. M.A.L.L.O.W.S. - the Morecambe and Lancaster Lancashire Open Water Swimmers - now has well over 2,500 supporters on their Facebook page.

In this edition, swimmers Nye O’Neil, new sea swimming convert Sarah Patterson and Jon Gibirdi, who set up the Facebook page, tell us about their experiences in the Bay.

Beware - their enthusiasm is infectious and you too could find yourself taking a dip!
