Author David Cook joins Doc Thompson to talk about his book "Biomythology: The Skeptic’s Guide to Charles Darwin and the Science of Persuasion"

The media is inundated with new scientific “facts” all the time. Studies are created and data manipulated to persuade us, market to us, and sell to us. It’s time to be skeptical, according to Dr. David Cook. Taking a strong,inquisitive and sometimes irreverent look into the evidence used to establish scientific theories in his new book, Biomythology: The Skeptic’s Guide to Charles Darwin and the Science of Persuasion, Dr. Cook explores the misuse of

science to convince us to believe certain ideas.

Biomythology will teach readers how to be skeptical of scientific persuasion and how to recognize when facts are being twisted to appear as evidence. “When science becomes the art of arranging observation to fit theory, when the physical sciences are cited to alter worldviews rather than the world we view, then nothing falls beyond reasonable doubt,” says Dr. Cook. Big science is growing stronger every day. As a result, intellectual history is overflowing with scientific facts gone bad. Once upon a time, there were nine planets. Scientific truth rests on the faith that future discoveries will not turn today’s facts into tomorrow’s fairytales.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

DAVID L. COOK, O.D., F.A.A.O., F.C.O.V.D., is a clinician, author, educator, and one of the nation's leading authorities on vision therapy. He is the author of the new book Biomythology: The Skeptic’s Guide to Charles Darwin and the Science of Persuasion. His previous books, Visual Fitness and When Your Child Struggles, provide simple explanations about vision therapy. His professional articles have appeared in top journals including The Journal of the American Optometric Association, The American Journal of Optometry and Physiological Optics, and The Journal of Vision Development. Dr. Cook is currently pioneering the use of 3D movies in the treatment of crossed eyes and has lectured on subject to various national groups.

Doc Thompson opened the phone lines and talked to Sarah from NY a Liberal Constitutionalist. Sarah explained before the break that she's from Africa and she's black. Sarah and her family all supported Trump and voted for Trump. Sarah explains; "...republicans are all about small business and a lot of African-American communities have suffered and there are no like African-Americans black owned businesses anymore almost they've almost disappeared because of Democrats and they're you know all their regulations and they make it so difficult for small businesses. I think that's something that really is good for the African-American community to have their own businesses in their own communities and that's what Republicans all are all about. "

Doc follows up with a question and asked how can we bring the nation back together. She replies "I think the you know the one thing that we need is to get out of the blocks and I think that the differences between the two parties are not really explained properly because I think the Republican party can actually have a lot more minority voters if they just explained it in the right way and didn't you know you could focus on different things when you speak to different groups."

Doc ends the call by pointing out; "The problem has always been conservatives and libertarians don't think they should go do those things not because they're above it in some cases maybe they've given up on minorities. "

Doc Thompson and “The Morning Blaze” crew do a public service announcement on dating as we head into the new year and people start dating to find a soulmate. Official bar correspondent Kris Cruz introduces Doc to the new code word, “Angel Shot,” to help women reduce sexual violence and abuse.

Kris points out how women may at times feel unsafe while on going dates and they were looking for a way to report a bad date without dealing with a fuss at the bar. As they continue to converse, Doc begins to point out holes and possible issues that could be raised on this new code word initiative.

“If the idea is, I say to the bartender and the guys like, ‘I’ll have a wine spritzer.’ I don’t think anyone drinks those anymore but I love a white wine spritzer and you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh. He’s a stalker. I got to warn somebody. I’ll have an Angel shot.’ You’re assuming that the white wine spritzer that picked you up and met you there doesn’t know what an angel shot is,” Doc explains.

“This was posted on the internet and not everyone has access to the internet,” Kris jokes.

This new initiate is to stop sexual violence and assaults without causing a scene. You can find a flyer at your local bars, only on the doors of the female restrooms.
