Chad was raised in a strict and isolated environment, where his upbringing was marked by fear, emotional, and physical abuse under the guise of religious discipline. We learned that a turning point came when Chad began to question the abusive and secretive practices within the church, especially after learning about alleged crimes committed by respected members of the community, including Bill Gothard.Chad was mainly met with silence and avoidance, particularly from his father, a preacher who had previously been vocal against other injusticies. This revelation prompted Chad to leave the church, seek therapy, and eventually share his story publicly, contributing to the ‘Shiny Happy People’ docu-series on Amazon.
