Shelley has been a psychologist for many years and was employed for ten years by Queensland Corrective Services. She has provided treatment and assessment to the highest risk prisoners in Queensland and has experience treating men and women in prison, many of whom had a mental health condition or a cognitive disability. Shelley has also worked as a psychologist for Queensland Health working in the Acute Young Adult Ward at Robina hospital and at the Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation unit at the Gold Coast Hospital. For the past seven years Shelley has been running her own psychology private practice and won a tender to Queensland Corrective Services.

She has treated clients with many different mental health conditions including ASD and Intellectual Disability. Over this time Shelley has provided a number of assessments, as a psychologist, for clients which have enabled them to access NDIS funding which has improved their lives immensely. Her interest, over time, in the NDIS grew and she researched this service, its processes and what it was offering to clients in great detail. 

Shelley's awareness of the support NDIS was able to offer clients and the enormous benefits it could bring to their lives led her to create Magnus Heath. A business where she could, along with a great team, significantly improve the lives of people living with a disability.

This Inaugural Gold Coast Event supports local Queensland Disability and Mental Health Advocacy Services. 

Through a Gala Ball and Auction fundraising event Magnus Health will raise money for local services which give voice and provide help, in the form of advocacy, to some of the most vulnerable people in our community. 10 Cent Tom, Respark Collective (resparkco.org) and Queensland Advocacy for Inclusion (qai.org.au) are small charities which do excellent work in our community and deserve our support.

Adam Sheppard is an athletics coach, personal trainer, retired para athlete and former Australian record holder, plus partner in the inclusion and disability services business, InvincAble Accessibility, Inclusion, Diversity and Education (InvincAble AIDE for short). He was born and bred in the Sunshine State and lives with his wife of ten years, Christy, and their three year old son, Fletcher.

My Story

My name is Tom, but you may know me as 10 Cent Tom.

I have an intellectual impairment and was diagnosed with severe scoliosis at the age of 15. Due to this, I’ve had surgery to correct my spine and have two titanium rods running up the length of my back — but I don’t let anything stop me.

A few years ago, I started collecting bottles and cans from around my neighbourhood. In the beginning, I loved being able to get to know my neighbours and make friends while earning a bit of pocket money.

However, I found that I absolutely loved the challenge, and adventurous aspects of collecting containers from my neighbours, so I decided to make it a business! Now, I collect 10 cent cans and bottles around the Gold Coast from homes, businesses and events. My mum and I drop-off and pick-up 10 Cent Tom wheelie bins all throughout the Gold Coast from Pimpama to Palm Beach and will expand to Brisbane in the near future.

A donation of $200 to the 10 Cent Tom project is all that is required to receive a bin. All donations go towards 10 Cent Toms goal of opening a recycling depot and employing people with disabilities on the Gold Coast.

Episode 53 - Peter and Deborah Miller: The original purveyors of haute couture (or for the rest of us, high-end fashion) on adventures in New Guinea, starting an airline, building an iconic motel, "losing" 130 acres of land, and building a following of 15000 people over the last few years.

In this episode, we go on quite the journey. We go from surveying roads and building boutique airline in New Guinea, to building an iconic motel in Surfers Paradise, owning a cattle farm slightly further south in the Tweed, back up to the Gold Coast to start fashion boutiques, restaurants, and I'm sure I've missed something.
