The House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021 US Capitol attack held its first hearing Thursday evening, detailing the findings of the panel's investigation and playing new video from closed-door depositions of members of former President Donald Trump's team and depicting the violence at the Capitol. Three police officers have been placed on ‘non-disciplinary paid administrative leave' after witnessing a drowning and failing to intervene, according to a press release from Tempe, Arizona, officials.The incident occurred on May 28, when officers arrived at the scene after a reported disturbance between a couple, who were allegedly homeless. After officers spoke to the couple, they then proceeded to check their records. While the police were checking those records, a man identified as Sean Bickings jumped into the Tempe Town Lake. The families of the victims and survivors of the Uvalde school shooting as well as the Buffalo massacre have agreed to appear before a House committee next week. The plan is to sway Republicans to enact gun legislation laws in wake of the tragedies that happened last month. “It is my hope that all my colleagues will listen with an open heart as gun violence survivors and loved ones recount one of the darkest days of their lives,” Rep. CarolynMaloney said in a statement Friday. “This hearing is ultimately about saving lives, and I hope it will galvanize my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass legislation to do just that.”A special education staffer at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, is taking the first step toward legal action against the gun manufacturer, Daniel Defense.
