Cold Duck will be performing as part of Councilmember Gil Cedillo’s 6th Annual FREE Latin Jazz and Music Festival to be presented in Sycamore Grove Park in Highland Park, CA. on Saturday and Sunday, October 5 and 6, 2019 ALL ARE WELCOME!!  In 1969, trumpet player/vocalist Jose Cuadra assembled a group of musicians to form an eight-piece band known today as Cold Duck. Before long, Cold Duck was establishing itself as the premier dance band. This successful stint as L.A.'s number one dance band led to a First Place finish in 1971 at the East Los Angeles College "Battle of the Bands". After a hiatus from 1973 to 1978, Cold Duck revived itself to its current form seen today. Cold Duck continues its tradition of excellent musicianship and groovin' rhythms. To this date, Cold Duck has enjoyed continued success with appearances from San Diego to Santa Barbara, locations such as Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Magic Mountain, NBC, MGM and ABC Studios. The list of credentials of individual band members includes extensive experience with a wide array of celebrities. With this solid experienced musicianship, it should come as no surprise that Cold Duck is renown for being one of the most versatile bands in existence. Since Cold Duck's inception over five decades ago, an underlying philosophy has been directly responsible for the band's continued success to this day: "Give the people what they want to hear and have a good time delivering it!" Mark K. Pilon, the executive director of Susan. G. Komen® Los Angeles County since 2013, is an inspirational leader who has developed and grown the non-profit’s profile, presence, fundraising efforts and reach. He has improved local recognition for the LA County affiliate; developed and implemented strategies for major shifts in messaging; built local revenue streams including recurring gifts through the Core of Komen, a business influencers organization; reorganized processes and initiated the first collaborative effort with multiple affiliates for a single grant initiative to serve the African American community in California. Prior to joining Komen LA County, the seasoned management executive spent 11 years with Make-A-Wish as President/CEO, initially handling Orange County, California, then adding responsibility for the Inland Empire. While at Make-A-Wish, Pilon achieved annual double-digit increases in wishes, led the organization through its first comprehensive strategic plan, and increased revenue streams in major gifts, planned giving, and grants and foundation giving. He also co-chaired a national committee that built compliance standards for 80-plus Make-A-Wish chapters nationwide. Jan Perry is a candidate for Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors District 2. She served as Los Angeles City Councilwoman for the residents of District 9 which includes Downtown, Little Tokyo and South LA. During her 12-year tenure, Perry led catalytic projects such as LA Live, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels and the new Police Administrative Building. She brought in $15 billion in investment, $52 million in net new tax revenue for the City of Los Angeles, and approximately 90,000 full-time jobs. As a result of her leadership, Downtown is one of the most desirable and sought-after residential and commercial destinations in the nation. Perry’s years in office also saw the development of more than 5,670 units of supportive housing to shelter the homeless and people suffering from mental illness and substance abuse.  Ms. Perry currently serves as the executive director of the Infrastructure Funding Alliance, a national initiative to meet future infrastructure, economic development, and environmental challenges. The organization’s mission is to develop and advocate approaches and strategies that motivate government at all levels to implement environmentally and fiscally sustainable infrastructure projects. She has served on the Los Angeles County Small Business Commission and the Women and Girls Initiative. Ms. Perry earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Southern California.

Ashley Perkins, MSW was recently honored as a Biddy Mason shero for her work within the community. Ashley is a social worker in the mental health field helping people to adjust and express in order to live their most meaningful lives. She holds community events, helps families become insured and begin investing.  Ashley Perkins, AKA "Perky", works to serve her people both in and out of her profession. Perky primarily serves marginalized Black populations including incarcerated individuals and their families, youth in the foster care system, the Black LQBT+ community, as well as doing freelance work in radio through the Perky Perspectives radio show. Perky also is a licensed insurance agent and is studying to gain investment licenses in order to help families create a stronger financial foundation. Perky is the creator/ lead content producer for the Perky Perspectives Radio/podcast which includes the Love Period and For Us series. The Love Period LLC was created to help women have a platform to speak about their periods and feminine hygiene without judgment and ensure these products are available in different areas. Love Period LLC has relocated to Los Angeles, CA. Upon relocating Perky decided to create For Us, a membership created to identify safe places For Us to express our talents, businesses, and culture with our people. For Us holds monthly meetups, workshops, events, and business development consultations.
