  • DCS: The Lizzie McGuire Movie

Based on the Disney Channel Original Series, we watched "THE LIZZIE McGUIRE MOVIE" starring Hilary Duff as the titular teenager with a knack for navigating awkward situations that one encounters in their adolescence. This time, Lizzie and her best friend David Gordon (Gordo) are off on a graduation trip to Rome. After promising that they would try to find adventure in Rome, Lizzie attracts the attention of a pop star who recently lost his singing partner, someone who looks an awful lot like Lizzie. With that, Lizzie is off to experience Rome like no other kid dreamed of, learning to embrace her own confidence and singing voice along the way. All the while, Gordo is running interference with the high school principle in charge of the trip, Ms. Ungermeyer, played by comedy master Alex Borstein. It's a movie that is very much a time capsule of that moment in 2003 when this movie came out. And "This is what dreams are made of" still bops. Hope you enjoy the movie and the review!

Be sure to vote for what we watch next week. These choices are a little less known so we have included links to short trailers of the movies.

SPACED INVADERS - A rag-tag group of martians land on Earth to assist in the planet-wide invasion of Earth...only to find out they may have arrived too early. Luckily it's Halloween, so even though the alien puppet's are poorly constructed, they won't turn any heads on this night. It's a comedy that's out of this world.

STAR KID - Spencer is often bullied in school but one day a alien inhabited cyber-suit lands on Earth and Spencer goes from a shy teenager to a butt-kicking super hero that is like a cross between Iron Man and Silver Surfer.

  • DCS: Tomorrowland

This week we watched the unapologetically optimistic, sci-fi adventure film starring George Clooney and Britt Robertson, "TOMORROWLAND."

This one really flew under the radar and was met with middling response from audiences and critics alike, but overall it is a fun ride from start to finish. The lead character Kasey (don't worry, we talk about it), is a bright-eyed and intelligent kid with aspirations of making the future a better place for all. "Kasey acquires a mysterious pin that shows her a utopian, futuristic world of tomorrow and she seeks out the aid of someone who has been there once upon a time, played by a stiff, but still charming George Clooney, the pair set off on a perilous journey, battling robots, the elements and time itself, in an effort to save the future! The movie was directed by Brad Bird who is mostly known for his contributions through animation like "The Iron Giant" "Ratatouille" and "The Incredibles," really set out to create something special and it does offer a great message.

    Hope you enjoy!

Be sure to vote for what movie we watch for review next week:

THE LIZZIE McGUIRE MOVIE - Starring Hilary Duff as the spunky and trend-setting teenager Lizzie, from the Disney Channel show of the same name. This follows Lizzie and friends as they take a trip to Italy and a simple case of mistaken identity gives Lizzie McGuire a taste of celebrity life in one of the most beautiful locations in the world.

    or

ELLA ENCHANTED - Starring Anne Hathaway, who is quite accustomed to the whole princess thing but this time around she is in a fantastical world of long ago and plays a girl named Ella who was cursed at a young age and always does whatever people ask of her, eventually Ella strikes out to find the fairy godmother who bestowed this curse and have it broken once and for all.

  • The Luck of the Irish ***RE-RELEASE***

We are postponing our "TOMORROWLAND" episode to bring you this old episode we did covering the DCOM "THE LUCK OF THE IRISH." Filled with Irish accents ranging from really good to really bad and that same ol' charm that the Disney Channel Original Movies are known for. And just in time for St. Patrick's Day!

The story follows Kyle, the luckiest boy in school, who takes an interest in his family history only to discover he hails from a family of Leprechauns!

Hope you enjoy and tune in next week to hear our review of "TOMORROWLAND."

  • DCS: A Simple Wish

This week we watched the magical comedy, "A SIMPLE WISH" starring one of the best child actors of the 90's, Mara Wilson and the clownish comedy star, Martin Short.

The story follows Anabel, a optimistic and spirited girl who wants her father to succeed in getting the big part in a Broadway Musical. Enter, Murray, a clumsy male Fairy Godmother, who offers to use his magic wand to SHABOOM Anabel's wish into reality. What starts as a simple wish quickly snowballs into a whirlwind adventure that pits Anabel, her obnoxious brother Charlie, and Murray to battle the dark and powerful witch, Claudia (played by Kathleen Turner) and her dog-turned-human companion, Boots. Lot's of silly, light-hearted humor and dated 90's CGI make this a easily digestible fantasy flick.

We hope you enjoy revisiting this classic.

Be sure to vote for what we should watch and review next week:

BICENTENNIAL MAN - Starring Robin Williams in a very heartfelt yet dramatic turn as a robot who joins a loving family and soon desires to find a path to becoming human himself and experience the joys of humanity while also grappling with some of life's tragedies. Also starring the girl from those Pepsi commercials.

TOMORROWLAND - Casey, a young science-enthusiast seeks the help of a disillusioned genius, Frank Walker played by George Clooney who is aware of a alternate world known as Tomorrowland, where great minds are able to flourish and bring about the betterment of mankind. Casey and Frank will venture to the unknown and unlock the mysteries of Tomorrowland in this Sci-Fi adventure.

  • DCS: My Favorite Martian

This week we watched the out of this world, outrageous comedy "My Favorite Martian" starring everybody's favorite creepy uncle: Christopher Lloyd.

A Martian crash-lands on Earth and must try to remain incognito long enough to repair his ship and return home without being discovered. The Martian, played by Lloyd, who is very convincing as a visitor from another planet, seeks shelter with a hapless but caring Broadcast News Producer, played by Jeff Daniels, the Dumb half of Dumb and Dumber. What follows is a series of convoluted events all set in a modern enough looking world but with people behaving with the sexist, regressive behaviors of the 1960's. It is quite possibly one of the most un-Disney Disney movies ever made, but it was a trip to experience, that's for sure.

It's time to vote for what we will be watching and reviewing next week.

    Should we watch:

A SIMPLE WISH - Starring Mara Wilson, from Matilda, who plays a little girl who wishes for her Father to secure the big part on Broadway he is pining for, a simple enough wish, but when you have a fairy godmother like Murray, played by comedy legend Martin Short, things tend to go from simple to seriously out of hand.

TOOTHLESS - Starring Kirstie Alley as a Tooth-Fairy in training who decides to use her fairy abilities to connect with the neighborhood kids and help them out while they also help her learn to live a little and let people in.

  • DCS: Tuck Everlasting (W/ Shandel Bruske)

We are back with another tangent-filled episode, and we have a special guest; KC's best friend Shandel!

This week, you all voted and we watched the time-period romantic movie "TUCK EVERLASTING" based upon the book of the same name.

The story follows a young woman named Winnifred "Winnie" Foster who is on the cusp of woman-hood and, on a walk through the forest, she encounters a handsome and mysterious young man named Jesse and his intense older brother Miles. And just like that, Winnie is kidnapped and finds herself living with a family of immortals with a slower, more deliberate way of living than Winnie has grown accustomed. As Winnie's parents grow worried for Winnie the longer she is missing, they hire a Man in a Yellow Suit, played by Sir Ben Kingsley, to track her down, but this guy has plans of his own when he discovers who she is with. Lots of intrigue and mystery and beautiful forest settings fill up this 90-minute breeze of a movie. There are definitely some problematic things that occur for us to talk about and we even get to talking about "Cruella" and Twilight and so much more. Hope you enjoy!

Be sure to vote for what we watch next week:

MISTER MAGOO - Comedic actor, Leslie Nielsen, stars in this comedy about a nearly-blind, eccentric old man named Mister Magoo as he is witness to a crime, whether he knows it or not.

MY FAVORITE MARTIAN - Starring Christopher Lloyd as a martian who lands on earth and must go into hiding at a schlubby broadcast news assistant played by Jeff Daniels, the Dumb half of "Dumb and Dumber."

  • 101 Dalmations (1996) ***COMMENTARY TRACK***

Hey there. We apologize for the last-minute change but we were unable to get together with our special guest for "Tuck Everlasting" due to snow, but we have this super-special-secret episode for you guys that we recorded back in the Summer season. It's a commentary track where Jacob and KC sit down to take in one of the first of the live-action adaptations of Disney's animated classics: "101 DALMATIONS" starring Glenn Close as the infamous Cruella DeVil.

The story was slightly updated and portrays Roger as a video game designer who has yet to create the perfect villain character and Anita is a British fashion designer working for the perfect villainous archetype, her colleague Cruella. But this isn't just about the humans, no we follow the lives of Pongo and Perdita who are two adorable Dalmations who have a darling litter of  15 that quickly expands to 101 when they find themselves being hunted by Cruella herself.

It's definitely an adjustment, not hearing the animals talk as we are used to. One thing is certain; these dogs have a bit more expression than the CGI lions in the recent adaptation of "THE LION KING." Just saying.

Hope you enjoy! We should be able to post the Tuck Everlasting Episode next week.

  • DCS: Enchanted

This week we revisit the highly successful, yet largely overlooked Disney Animated/Live-action movie, "ENCHANTED." Starring Amy Adams in the role that established her as a dynamic acting force to be reckoned with: Giseslle, who is basically all of your favorite classic Disney princesses rolled into one. She sings beautifully, she talks to animals and has a talent for dressmaking and falling from high places. This is also at the height of Patrick Dempsey's renowned role as Dr. McDreamy in Grey's Anatomy, in this he is playing a jaded New Yorker and pulling it off! We also have James Marsden as the Prince who seeks to woo Giselle and live happily ever after but they will have to contend with Prince Edward's evil queen step-mother, played by Susan Sarandon, truly an under appreciated Disney Villain. World's clash when the queen sends Giselle through a magic well that places her in the heart of modern day New York City. Adapting to her new surroundings proves to be treacherous and very overwhelming for this optimistic lady with an affinity for breaking into song, but not even Patrick Dempsey is immune to her charms and outlook.

This movie seems to be Disney's first attempt at wrangling with it's Princess Legacy. It would do something similar with the animated films Tangled and Frozen, and speaking of Frozen, Elsa's voice appears in one of her first on-screen roles! There is a LOT of Disney back-patting and self-referential humor all over the place. And Jeff Bennet. But there is so much charm and fun and Amy Adams truly does embody a animated princess in physical form, for better or for worse.

We hope you enjoy and hope you will vote on next week's episode:

    Should we watch:

TUCK EVERLASTING - A lighter toned version of Twilight in which Alexis Bledel plays a young woman in the 1800's who befriends a family of immortals.

THE LIZZIE MCGUIRE MOVIE - Based on the hit 90's era Disney Channel Original Series starring Hilary Duff as a quirky, trend-setting teenager who travels to Rome with her friends and fellow classmates and goes on a whirl-wind adventure where she will be given the opportunity to take center stage as a pop sensation's singing partner.

  • DCS: James and the Giant Peach (W/ Nicholas Fisher and Nicolette Coiner)

We have guests! Joining us again is Nick Fisher, you may remember him from "The Christmas Toy" episode and, joining for the first time, Nicolette Coiner. They're the Nics!

You voted, we listened and this week we watched "James and the Giant Peach" which is based on the book by Roald Dahl, a name you likely recognize from some of your favorite and most nightmare-inducing childhood stories.

Following the tragedy of his parents being gobbled up by a smoky Rhino, young James must live with his horrible aunts, Spiker and Sponge who delight in tormenting the boy. One day an old(ish) man offers James the chance to escape through an adventure beyond his wildest dreams with the aid of some magical rigatoni (a.k.a. Crocodile Tongues) that cause anyone who eats them to grow and become all stop-motioney. James makes new friends with a crew of bugs and together they set out on a journey for New York City, the place where dreams come true. Sure. Along the way we are treated to some Randy Newman songs, impressive animation sequences and a cameo by a familiar stop-motion icon. We all loved reliving this classic, we hope you do too!

Be sure to vote on what we watch and review next week:

    Will it be

GODMOTHERED - A young, optimistic Fairy Godmother ventures out into the modern world in order to help a woman whose request for help was ignored. Starring Jillian Bell from Workaholics and Isla Fisher from "Now you see me..." (not the DCOM.) (Available on Disney+)

ENCHANTED - Amy Adams star in this early-2000's Disney movie that combines animation with live-action and was the company's first attempt to grapple with it's time-honored Princess tradition, while trying to be relevant and progressive. The princess Giselle finds herself whisked away to the unusual world of modern day New York. Will she be able to find a way back to her two-dimensional world of fantasy or will she be doomed to the harsh, real world?

  • DCS: Baby's Day Out

In the Battle of the Babies, you voted, we listened and this week we are watching and reviewing "BABY'S DAY OUT."

This 90's movie staring an adorable baby, played by twins who would never act in movies again, which, given the path many kid actors end up on may have been a very smart move. Regardless, we are treated to a off-the-wall comedy that pits a infant child against a trio of bumbling kidnappers Eddie (Joe Mantegna), Norby (Joe Pantoliano) and Veeko (Brian Haley.) who have to track down the little guy as he crawls his way through the streets of New York. Along the way they will encounter death-defying heights, Gorilla's and severe attacks on their respective nether regions. The set design is amazing, the gorilla costumes convincing and the comedic timing of these three stooges make this a hilarious and insane movie for the family. did we mention how adorable this kid is??? Hope you enjoy!

Be sure to vote for next week's episode:

JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH - A stoop-motion musical which follows a lonely boy named James who, with the aide of some magic and a well-placed peach, is whisked away to world's he only ever dreamed of, with a family he never expected amongst some insects including a musical Grasshopper, a wise-cracking Centipede and a sultry Spider. Together they are headed for the big city and getting there will be the adventure of a lifetime!

FANTASTIC MR. FOX - A stop-motion movie, also based on a Roald Dahl novel, that is directed by prestige director Wes Andersen and, if you know the director, it has a lot of his famous symmetrical visual style along with a very quirky tone. Voices include George Clooney, Bill Murray and Meryl Streep. A sly Fox must battle with three farmers in order to secure a steady supply of chickens, but must learn to work well with others.
